Look at the light switch across the room.

Now hold out both hands, palms facing out and make an hole with your forefingers and thumbs (touching them together).

Close your left eye, now close your right eye.

With which eye do you see the light switch?

For handguns you can do a few things. You can either shoot left handed which is gonna screw with your head. You can shoot right handed and tilt your handgun a bit so it lines up with your left eye. You can shoot right handed and right eye anyway.

I shoot right handed left eyed on handguns and on rifles, for precision work at long distances I shoot left handed, but for most applications I shoot right handed.

Dominance is really a preferred way rather than the only way. I write left-handed because I'm (mostly) left-dominant but I can actually write right-handed quite well. Why? Practice! In the 2nd grade my teacher felt that nobody should write left-handed so I spent the year writing right-handed.

If you want to shoot "conventionally" with RH and right eye, if you practice long enough, you will be comfortable and proficient that way.

Otherwise make adjustments to accommodate your body's preference and practice that way.

Many people have overcame this difficulty, Jeff Cooper was right handed and left eye dominate! You can retrain your eyes - but it is very difficult! Apache pilots have probably the hardest task's training their eyes - with the HUD, etc. I understand they actually get to the point their eyes work independently. I have read that most firearm trainers try to find alternate methods to accurately fire weapons rather than re-train the eyes. https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ccm-columns/behind-the-line/the-cross-dominant-shooter/

It really shouldn't harm your shooting ability. I've been shooting competition trap, doubles mostly but also singles, since I was 12. I'm also right handed, left eye dominant. I compensate for it a bit, and people always say I look funny when I shoot, but it's just how I've done it.

My Dad as well as a lot of the old timers have tried to get me to switch to left hand shooting, but I can't do it. My Uncle did it and excelled when he switched to left hand shooting.

I've had no problem placing just fine in my competitions.

This is not true for all. My right eye is so bad, no amount of practice will help. They've worked with it since I was a child and cannot improve it, even with surgery. If I ever lost my left eye, I would be legally blind. I certainly can't drive or read using just my right eye. No way I could shoot with any accuracy.

If you are left eye dominant, it is clear that your left eye got that way by taking from your right eye. It is only just that your left eye pay it's fair share to your right eye so that they can have equality. Ignore the fact that your right eye may, in fact, be a lazy eye.

I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Its really more of a blessing than a curse.

As a kid, I always shot right handed. In the military, they made me shoot left handed. So for the last 30 years I've generally shot rifles left handed, but now, with Eotech, I can shoot either way. I don't really have a strong or a weak side.

Shotguns it truly doesn't matter. I shot skeet for years, and can switch at will. That comes in real handy when bird hunting, when one arm gets tired of carrying I can switch hands.

The most difficult thing I've encountered so far would be a bow with a peep site. It took quite a bit of practice to get the strength to draw a bow with the weak arm.

Neither, because both of my eyes are closed. Did I do that wrong?

I use a smudge of chap stick on the lense of my dominate eye-just a finger print right where the aim point is, works great on sporting clays

I searched more and found one that worked...I'm right handed but left eye dominant, ugh...what to do now

I know the feeling. I'm left handed but right eye dominate. My natural tendency is to shoot left handed but I shoot better with my right. My bow is right handed as well. I also play golf, hockey etc right handed too. Lol.

If you have good vision in both eyes, research using an occluder to block your dominant eye. I've done so for 50+ years in your situation and can still easily knock squirrels out of trees with a .410.

For handguns, it's not that much of an issue. A little practice and being cross-dominant really doesn't matter.

My son is left eye dominant and right handed. I couldn't understand why he always tried holding his bb gun weird. Till I learned how to tell which eye is dominant. Now I know to be more patient with him and to find out how he likes to shoot.

That was me as a kid, holding my BB gun right handed with my face across the stock so I could see the sights with my left eye.:):

Cross dominant here also. Right handed, left eyed. I was thinking of the chap stick thing on the left lens to see if that would help.

Too old to switch to left handed shooting, plus all my guns are right handed.:)
