I am surprised at how many Obama apologists are on this forum.

Not returning the salute of the Marine was a stupid and disrespectful oversight. It was the wrong thing for a president to do.

BTW, it doesn't matter what other examples you can drudge up of other presidents doing the wrong thing. It won't justify this particular wrong thing.

I know I can count on you to call out the next republican president on his wrong thing.

Is this a strawman or just a personal attack?

Replace Obama with bush and this site has become Democrat Underground during the Bush years. Why is it that followers every every party either ignore or make excuses for the misdeeds of their own while continually harping about the misdeeds of the other party? You don't care that soldiers held an umbrella for repubs but its the end of the world when a marine has to hold one for Obama.

This thread is about Obama disrespecting a U.S. Marine by not returning a salute (the umbrella is in another thread). It is not about all of the past sins of Repub (or Dem) presidents. Is it that hard to stay on topic?

And all the outrage might have some credibility if it wasn't so selective.

Let me try this from another angle. I wonder if the Marine would salute if he didn't have to? He is saluting the office not the man. If the president chooses not to return it, so what? People getting hung up on protocol.

Didn't read the OP link but did it show when the president came back out of the helicopter and talked to the Marine for a few moments?

It did and that is the funny part... no one wants to bring up the part where he went back outside to shake the Marines hand for his folly.

I wonder how many times Gee Dubya apologized for anything?

Both. He's the resident INGO straw man slayer. He also has a chip on his shoulder toward conservatives.

Probably because Conservative tend to be, like Liberals, hypocrites. There are some things I agree with from both perspectives, but today simply calling one's self a "Conservative," really doesn't mean much other than that the person can't think for themselves.

    (same with Liberals)

True. So you'd think someone who sets themselves up as morally superior to the rest of us (hornadyl), would be a little more careful about not being a hypocrite himself.

This thread is about Obama disrespecting a U.S. Marine by not returning a salute, not me. :lmfao:

I don't think he's that way at all. He simply calls out double standards, regardless of where it originates.... and let's be honest, there are a LOT, of those, when it comes to Barack Obama. You don't have to like the man, but you can't "ding" him if you'd give "your guy" a pass on something you don't agree with.

I swear people watch him like a hawk for him to slip up.... Who gives a ****? I'm sure there were a number of times I didn't get a salute returned or accidentally failed to salute an officer I should have.

Obama is a douchebag... no doubt about it, but he is the President and I'm sure there is plenty on his mind (whether evil or not). I'm not surprised that he forgot a salute and I give him credit for having the gumshoe to go back out there and basically apologize for his miss step.

I'd also bet he isn't the first President to miss a salute either.....

Memories must be short for internet conservatives... Remember last week when all of you guys made an ENORMOUS deal out of a Marine holding an umbrella for Obama?

Remember how so many self righteous Republicans called him every name in the book and then proclaimed how a real man holds his own umbrella and "GEE Dubya" and Ronald Reagan were "REAL MEN" and would NEVER make a service member hold his umbrella for him?

Remember how well that turned out for you?

    Here... let me remind you

    picture.php

Three of the photos are Photoshopped, much like the picture was of Bathhouse
Barry sitting in the situation room during the bin laden raid.

The only genuine picture is of Barry being protected from the rain by the Marine.

I know it's been a long time since I wore a uniform, but I seem to remember that the President (even one who did not deserve the office) was not required to return a salute from someone in uniform. In fact, as I recall, it was improper for him (or her) to return a salute. He may be Commander in Chief, but he is not in the military. Don't misunderstand, I am not defending him, just stating a fact.
