Ok, who has read or seen Obamas new speech on the new shootings? I don't want to start a war, but something really does need to be done. We or someone, has to find a way to get guns out of the hands of these idiots that are not only screwing up our right to bear arms, but that are KILLING people. That is a REAL problem. A growing problem. A problem that needs to be stopped. Background checks is not the answer. So, what is the answer. What if one of our family members was one of the people killed? What would we suggest to be done? THIS REALLY HAS TO STOP! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. But what?????

We can make it illegal for them to buy or carry guns if they know they are crazy, regardless of any other laws. Would that suffice?

The fact is that evil has always existed. It is evil that we cannot prevent with laws. While it is true that guns make it easier for evil people to kill more people, it isn't the guns that make them evil. So making more laws just punishes those that follow the law. If you can find a way to prevent evil people from obtaining firearms, whilst not affecting good people, then I'm all for it! Anything else just gives the evil people more power over the good guys--Mexico is a PERFECT example of this, because guns are completely illegal, and I think you know what their gun violence is like. Keep in mind, Mexico shares a border with us, and they ship tons of illegal drugs here, so even making ALL guns illegal here will just empower the gangs (we are not an island like Britain or Australia).

From everything I read, the guy, had a shotgun, (what biden said), and shot a security guard, took his handgun, and then shot a police officer, and took his AR-15..... YOU tell ME, what kind of law, would PREVENT that ?????

I don't think an AR15 was ever used in this incident.

Don't jump on him, all that does is make antis. Why not teach him if you disagree? Yes, something needs to be done, but I don't think the solution involves any legislation on guns. Why don't we all think of some solutions so that we may inform OP of why gun control is unnecessary?

Perhaps gun free zones were the problem, or perhaps the security was intensely lacking? I don't see how a man with a long gun could make his way into a military base. He got in their easier than I can get into a baseball game. One, or better both, of these issues needs to be looked at and solved.

To quote a Mr. Ron White-

    "You can't fix stupid."

No law, or set of laws/regulations/statutes/ordinances... either current or yet to be crafted, would have any effect on this type of criminal behavior.

    Guns aren't the problem.

    Blaming guns isn't the solution.

Banning guns won't make them vanish.

Murder is already illegal, as is shooting someone in most instances ; criminals don't care.

The only thing that stops someone who engages this behavior is another person with a gun who refuses to allow it. You can be one of them or you can rely on someone else to do it for you.

    That is reality.

Most of the statements already made here are accurate to your "means to an end." Gun legislation will not prevent nor deter further incidents. What will?

Much more harsh punishments is a start. Early out for good behavior and other BS reasons should be eliminated. More of an "eye for an eye" system would instill the fear necessary to deter violent crime. There will still be some exceptions, but they will be fewer for sure.

The majority of the other exceptions could be better handled by more intensive psychological research and enforcement of surrounding psychological policies. This of course should involve psychiatric professionals to determine, not lawyers, judges, and any other random person someone sees fit.

Indeed, there will still be exceptions even after instituting these two things. However, they will be MUCH less fequent.

In order to get of gators one drains the swamp.

In order to get rid of mass shootings, we need to rid ourselves of gun free zones.

Mass shootings are caused by politicians creating governmentally-mandated slaughter pens. Once politicians rid us of GFZs and they then rid us of mass shootings.

Phylodog pretty much sums it all up.

For the record I will support a new law allowing for full universal background checks..........Just as soon as they pass a law that requires people to take a test before they can vote.

Until people begin respecting LIFE ... theirs and others ... this will continue. For many life appears to be disposable. Unfortunately they are wrong. Once gone it will not return, at least on this orb.
