I am at a loss, i have been wanting both of these blades, but I just do not know which to get.
    Which would you choose?

I really like the Emerson CQC-7 for the utilitarian in me.

I carried the cqc-7 for many years. It is a strong and utilitarian design. I used it for everthing from processing deer and small game to cutting tent stakes while backpacking. I would yet have it in my pocket but I lost it last year. If I get a chance to pick a used one up again at a decent price, I will have one in my pocket again.

I HATE tanto blade pocket knives. I also am not a fan of Emersons. The design just bores me, and it doesn't seem like you get much for the money spent on them.

The Vallotton Sub Hilt on the other hand, you get a whole lot for your money. I've read nothing but awesome reviews on that knife. Style wise, it's not my bag of tea, but I can see why other people like it. It's also made in Spyderco's Taighung facility, which in my opinion makes the nicest production knives (minus CRK and Lionsteel) I've seen. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Vallotton if you like the looks/feel of that knife.

The answer is simple: you want both, so get both! No need to justify or worry over it.

Then, even if you can't see Brad at the gunshow, PM him or call him. Customer service can make a huge difference, especially if there is an issue. Brad's customer service is the BEST (as is Knife Lady's).

Brad's Awesome! He spent about an hour when I was getting my EDK knife. He worked with my budget and helped me really understand some of the finer points of the blades. When I broke my clip he gave me good advice and helped me get it fixed. Btw, I need another knife.... ;)

I wish i could go this weekend, unfortunately i will be out of the state on business. I have heard a lot of good things about bradknives.

    thanks for the information guys.

I see that you are located in the Lafayette area. I will be at the Lafayette gun & knife show at the end of this month (March 28 & 29). Feel free in contacting me before the show if you would like to discuss knife options.

IMO: I have to agree with "seedubs1", your going to get a lot more bang for the buck with the Spyderco Vallotton Sub Hilt, but it is not a "gentleman's knife", it's large, on the thick side, and is a beast.

Sounds exactly like my definition of a "gentleman's knife".

I wouldn't get dead set on anything until you see Brad. I thought I wanted a ZT - Hinderer collaboration, but I waited until I went to Blade last year (I was still living in GA at the time) and handled tons of knives. I ended up buying the ZT0801 Rexford collaboration, and I'm still happy with the purchase (although the Benchmade 940-1 came very close).

As for the two you were considering, I've found Emerson's liner locks to be quite weak. For $20 more you can get Emerson's ZT made collaboration with a much stronger frame lock, and better blade steel. As for the Spyderco Valloton, it's an expensive Taiwanese made liner lock. There are equivalent knives with stronger locks made in the USA from Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT, and others. Get what makes you happy, but those are some things I'd consider.
