Or maybe its just because my coworkers are clueless and pigeon hole folks/make assumptions? I'm a computer network engineer. I am business casual, and sometimes rock the 5.11/Tru-Spec tac pants. I dont have any gun stickers on my car, but I do have a "peace through superior firepower" sticker. I have one of the NRA bullet pens on my desk. As ChurchMouse and several others here can attest, I'm not Tom Cruise, but I'm also not Lewis from Revenge of the Nerds (Or Red Green's Nephew) I dont hide the fact that I shoot, but somehow everyone around me is oblivious to that fact. Even the ones that DO carry.

I have discovered that around my office a HUGE number of coworkers carry. Based on my estimation at least 20% of the cars contain a firearm. I am just now discovering this. As I hear about those in the company that shoot, I mention guns in conversation. "Hey, you hear about the new G43?" etc. They were ALL shocked I EDC, let alone own/carry occasionally. And by shocked I mean I could probably tell them I'm a drag queen on the weekends and I would get almost the same response.

So either I just dont look the type, or they all make the assumption that since I'm a self professed geek I couldnt possibly be into anything other than comic books, RPGs, video games, and computers.

I dont care... I'll take it.

I don't get it, seriously, who doesn't like a rocket propelled grenade

MEMEMEME!!!!! But they think RPG stands for Role Playing Games... aka Dungeons and Dragons, etc.

I swear I could walk through the office and announce that I had a trunkload of RPGs and they would all not give it much thought other than "it must be game night".

No one seems to be surprised for me.
    I wonder why

I'm known as "the gun guy" around our area at work. Actually I had to change departments because people stopping by my desk to talk guns was making a liberal that sat across the aisle from me uncomfortable. First they complained about a screensaver that I had made from pics of various guns I own, so I switched it to pictures of kittens, unicorns and My Little Pony. When that didn't appease them enough, the complaints about "gun talk" started. Fortunately, a position in a different department opened up and I took it. People on my current team have no such irrational fears of pictures of inanimate objects or conversation about said objects.

Guess I am the lucky one. I get paid to talk guns all day. So I am lucky there but I have always been vocal about guns. And I usually let whoever wonder if I carry or not.

Around my work, you never let anyone know if something bothers you. Cause then they'd take it to extreme.
If they found out guns bothered you, they'd have pictures and toys all over the place. Inside cabinets, drawers, bathroom stalls, etc.
    Can't imagine switching the screensaver.

Pretty much here too. Though since we have a "0 tolerance" policy, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody got into trouble if they did that now a days.

I've had people come to me asking advice about buying a particular pistol, or rifle, and it really bothers the Obama supporters in my section.

We we had one gentleman actually gloating when he found out that they were trying to ban green tip ammo, even when he had zero clue WTF green tipped ammo was.

he only problem I see about being the "office gun nut", is that because of the demographics in my department, the first reaction others thought of me was "gun toting racist red neck".

I've now been carrying amost a year now & when firearms come up at work, everyone talks about having them but almost never about carrying. There are a few that know I carry when I'm not working but not many. It just seems to be one of those things people keep quiet about around here.

Everyone I work directly with knows I carry. The running joke was "when the zombies come, we are going to your house." And the response:"just bring ammo and munchies".

Outside of that group, not so much. The corp is based in DC, and so has a strict anti-everything policy (seriously, it is almost funny).

So, most folks know me as the "Jeep Guy", with a smaller circle of co-workers referencing the "well-armed Jeep guy".

I dress very untactical, I have no stickers or anything like that.

Very few people know I carry and I like it that way.

I'm a gubmint employee (Federal), so yeah, zero tolerance, but the person in question went to our boss about it and implied that I was creating a "hostile work environment" by having pictures of guns. She even claimed to him that she believed I was keeping a gun in my car at work, which is verboten (I wasn't, but that's how crazy this person is). I really had to bite my tongue on that one. Like I said, thankfully a position opened up in another department, so I didn't have to endure it for long.
