Saw/seen is what really gets me.

When I read "I seen..." I assume you aren't going to finish the sentence with "...the inside of a book."

... Its called an ellipses. Three dots. (sometimes 4 but apparently only in certain legal documents) Not five. Not thirteen. Three. Spaces before/after are optional so I'll let that slide. :):

Wate untill he meats Harleyman_50....... Hahahahahahahaha

    ^^^ This. :)

To the OP, though, it is important to me that *I* do my best to convey meaning. Sometimes that means bending the rules of punctuation. Or grammar. But, I do so because I (generally) know the rules, not because I'm ignorant of them.

I care much less what other people do; I just try to glean what meaning I can from their posts. There are a few people that I know on INGO who are supposed to be good writers, so if I catch them with a glaring mistake, I'll usually point it out. Otherwise, I tend to cut people slack. Or slak.

As autistic and obsessive-compulsive as I am about my own usage, I'm not above playing a little. There are a few things that bother me, especially misuse of apostrophes, homonyms and near-homonyms. I won't correct unless there's a funny point to be made, and uncoiled rice still pops up. Interestingly, I'm able to understand Harleyrider very well.

So many references to Harleyrider_50 making it obvious his posts are being read by many. That is the gift of a good communicator, getting readers to think about the content and not the grammar or structure.

Not necessarily. Some of us couldnt take it and put him on ignore.

His posts are also ignored by many... Possibly more than any other member.

Punctuation counts. If you are sloppy in little things, it is unlikely you suddenly get better on the big things. I don't runaway in horror when someone prattles on without the benefit of basic rules of English, but it doesn't help their "content."

I do tend to get annoyed about "discreet" and "discrete". When expressing a concept that is so common and central to the gun-carrying community, we should really use the correct one.

I write for a living, so It's as much habit as anything that lends to proper grammar and punctuation in my own posts. I'm a terrible speller, though, and if I didn't have spell check, my writing would be as bad as my shooting would be without contact lenses.

I don't worry too much about other people's form, unless I see something that strikes me as funny, then I might poke fun (I think auto-correct has a sense of humor). I actually think it's part of the fun on a forum, experiencing different styles and "voices" in posts, whether the writer is being proper or not.

In informal settings, such as ingo or personal emails and texts, I couldn't care less about grammar. If whatever device I am typing on capitalizes the beginning of a sentence, wonderful, but I rarely hit the "shift" key. A person's opinion of me based on Internet posts holds little weight, especially since the chance of us meeting are quite slim.

if it is something important, I am aware of usage and grammar rules and follow them as necessary. Also, a fourth dot on an ellipsis is used as a period, to signify there will not be a following pickup of the thoughts being expressed.

i will admit that my writing looks even more disjointed when using an iPad or smart phone that sometimes capitalizes my words, as evidenced in this post.
