Oh man there is nothing like the smell of fresh baked bread. Growing up I was blessed with that regularly. I'd cut about an inch thick heel slice, smother it in butter while it was still warm... Pure heaven right there.

I haven't bought bread for years. That is a weekly deal here and exactly how I had mine tonight.

I was trying to convince my wife that I could go on a bacon only diet for 2 weeks. 2 lbs of bacon ONLY for calories each day. Coffee and water still a go since no calories

Two pounds? What about lunch and dinner?

Home made usually trumps store bought.
I bought the spouse a really nice bread maker that she used maybe twice.
Sat for a long time and then was sold in a yard sale.
    I tried.

My bread machine has been idle for too long.

    did someone say toast

That guy really wanted some toast!

I made ciabatta on Monday to eat with our steak. Not bad, but that is a wet dough. I'm going to have to give it another go and maybe use a bit less water than the recipe calls for...

Check out the Peter Reinhart recipes. I have a ciabatta recipe that I have made a time or two. I love his bagel recipe, but I make sourdough most of the time since the starter is always in the fridge. No bread machine here...just me.

Here is his blog. Peter Reinhart's Weblog

This is also an excellent site with info and recipes for breads of all kinds. This one also has a forum to discuss. The Fresh Loaf | News & Information for Amateur Bakers and Artisan Bread Enthusiasts

I used Paul Hollywood's recipe: Ciabatta | Paul Hollywood

I think it was just too wet. Didn't fluff up enough.

    Thanks for the links!
