Of course not... but they were "the lesser of two evils."

I'm not arguing that the two sides were equivalent. I guess we could say that merely believing and acting like the black race is inferior is certainly less evil than deciding they are property and acting like it. I'm just saying about the North, that it would be better if people included the whole truth about what really happened and why and what were the true motivations.

Make no bones about it. People in the North thought black people were inferior almost as much as people in the South. There just had a very vocal portion that didn't believe that their inferiority should justify their slavery.

Not certain either. Some people are scope-locked on the "well, the North didn't fight to end slavery" dead end of the Lost Causers. It's not the point. The South started a war to preserve slavery and White Supremacy.

It's time that the South started to show some shame for that: https://www.vox.com/2017/5/24/15675606/bryan-stevenson-confederacy-monuments-slavery-ezra-klein

Whenever Kirk goes all Sherman it's just AWESOME...(I don't agree with him 100 percent on this but I love watching the show)...

I will grant you that, but I do get very tired of the standard nonsense that the North was on a holy crusade to drive iniquity and evil from the land and create a utopia of righteousness.

A bit of apparent but not real irony. When I lived in Missippi, blacks and whites were more integrated, at least in the 2000's, than they were anywhere I've lived in the North. I was surprised to see workers of different races hanging out with each other on breaks and lunch. You didn't see that much in the North. Of course there were pockets of racism on both sides but most people seemed not to care as much about race. I talked about that with some folks down there and they said the very publicized stories and books and movies depicting them as racist (this IS Missippi) had some impact.

I had a friend from TN. He said that the best part of the south was that if someone was racist, they didn't hide it from him, they straight up told him. He said up here, people always act like they aren't, even if they are.

Two groups of morons squaring off over a statue. Neither really actually caring about whether the statue stays or goes, but simply wanting to dress up in beatnik or soldier of fortune costumes to mix it up and shout at each other.
How do you know what they care about?

You're right, I'm applying logic, and the odds that these groups are doing the same is close to nil. If I wanted to honestly take the statue down, I'm probably not going to announce to the world my intention. If I intended to prevent someone from taking the statue down, I probably wouldn't publicly rally an armed body to confront the people who wished to take it down. When you think, there's always the consideration of other, possibly better ways, to achieve your goal.
