So I got to thinking, how many here keep a lot of spare parts? And I don't just mean AR stuff that eventually turns into more builds. I mean real dedicated spares. For everything you have. Even things like 1911 parts.

I am a little crazy about it. if the part costs less then 30 bucks, I keep a spare.

Nope. Just carry a spare gun. If something takes a dump grab another and keep shooting. Fix it on a rainy day.

Same with any other tool. Fishing rods or whatever.

I watch for deals on parts and pick them up when I can, you never know when a gun will come your way that just needs a part to make it work again.

Picked up an SAA a while back that had "timing problems" what it had was the wrong cylinder, which I just happened to have.

No shame in keeping extra parts unless you just need the money for something else. just look around your house and see all the extra stuff you have that barely gets used once a year or less. never hurts to keep that part lying around just in case. `

I have found that spare parts are "builds in progress". I'm looking at an 03a3 Smith Corona barrel that looks lonely. It needs to be counter-bored due to some mis-planned front sight holes. (bought it that way for a song).

I like to keep spares of high wear parts. Firing pins, extractors, bolts ect. These are usually rather inexpensive for current production arms

On my NFA stuff I like to have a complete parts kit laying around.

I keep a lot of spare parts around. I have parts laying around for stuff I have never owned. I recently sold HK P7M13 mags that I have never owned a gun for.

I keep spares for my AR's, Glocks, and my reloading press. I just bought a spare parts kit for my Dillon at the 1500. For the 1911's I have a couple spare slide springs but, sadly that's as far as I know how to go on the 1911's. I once took a MSH off of a Colt and had a melt down...LOL. It is a skill I want to learn though.
I do like Sniper 79, carry a spare gun usually.

A few springs, a couple of firing pins, and some o-rings for the silencers.
    Nothing more.

I can see how this could get out of hand like stock piling excess ammo.
    (I know, define excess...right?)

If we're talking spare parts (as opposed to spare guns),
I keep almost everything. And I *usually* label it in a ziplock bag.
If it doesn't get labeled, then it gets confused with other stuff.

Right now, I have a spare CZ hammer, some spare CZ springs of different weights (w/ originals), Ruger GP100 springs of different weights (w/ originals), 1911 springs, grips grips grips, sights, and some odds 'n ends tools.

I should get some backup extractors and firing pins

I don't shoot enough to have spare parts. I have never worn out any component on a firearm. I have replaced(upgrades) parts, so I keep the original stuff but that would be the only "spare" parts I have around.

If I have more than 2-3 parts, they always end up as another complete gun. Although I do have a pile of 1911 triggers and springs and such. I don't have a 1911. Hmm, I wonder if anyone has frames on sale to stick these parts in...

I have the same issue with spare AR parts. Eventually, they turn into a complete firearm.

I'm another one of the "spare gun" guys. I think you'd term most of what I have as "maintenance parts" and not spare parts. Recoil springs, magazine springs, that sort of thing.
