I haven't gone to Lowe's since they started requiring me to wear pants.

Why? There's plenty of people who don't even wear them right.

Sometimes I ask myself "why do I bother to go online at all?" Then this happens. This, this is why I go online. JettaKnight is my write in candidate for POTUS.

For those of you posting derisively about freedom, stop sipping the Kool-Ade long enough to look at facts.

This is not what they warned us of, no where near that bad. A power grab is on, whether you see it or not. California is trying to keep churches closed until fall, just when flu season starts, see where that is going. They are trying to make voting by mail so hundreds of thousands of poll workers no longer keep our votes legit. Fighting over spending trillions we do not have implementing their socialist dreams.

    Look at the evidence...

I think Illinois is no large gatherings of more then 50 until phase 6. That phase is only when there is herd immunity or a vaccine.

kentucky lost their ban on limiting in person church gatherings today also.

as for n95’s, my wife is a nurse and has to go in for mask fitting and testing every year. If she fails, she has to use a papr mask (self contained helmet mask with a blower unit for filtering air). They have her put on a mask then spray sorting and if she can smell it, she fails. If she can’t pass, papr it is.

But Menards was voted "#1 lumberyard" and "#1 hardware store" in Steuben county, so how could one go wrong there? Of course, they are now the only lumberyard and hardware store in Steuben county since their arrival closed all the private shops over 10 years ago. Think it's bad where you are? Try being the closest stop to a bunch of Michigan residents who can't buy home improvement stuff at their local stores? It has looked like black Friday every day at our Menards for the last 2 weeks or so...

Enough with the pathetic shaming posts. Humans have always spewed germs about, it is part of being human. It has been posted ad nauseam that there are few doing it right and effectiveness is very questionable. If someone is fearful or high risk, they should engage in the best protocols they can, it is not their right to dictate to everyone else how they live. If they can force mask wear for this, why not colds or other flu types? When would mask wear end? Please exercise your right to wear that mask, keep your opinions off my face...

You know, that sort of language isn't going to convince anyone to change and agree with you at all; it just leads to each side entrenching more.
To say any on INGO doesn't love freedom is disingenuous, at best.

There's a not a power grab, but there is a lot of fearmongering and "if it saves just one life." And I think we should discuss it as such, with civility. Yelling, "don't tread on me!" when Menards says, "either wear a mask, or don't shop at our store", just seems recalcitrant in the eyes of the public at large and will leave you, and your opinions on freedom, ostracized. And, since we are a democracy (at least in some ways), I think that convincing the public at large of the notion that we need to work, is noble and necessary. But insults and name calling, e.g. sheeple, Kool-Ade drinkers, will only garner support from those that already agree with you.

I can't tell if you are serious and want to have a discussion, or just want to prove how libertarian-cool you are. Sometimes you can be rational and open, and then there's a post like this where you lay the smack down on Snapdragon and insult a a chunk of INGO, which is not cool at all.

We're all doing our best to figure out how to navigate these waters, trying to figure who to trust, trying to understand the severity of the situation... a little bit of faith in your fellow (wo)man, and patience can go a long way.

Here is just one example of snark at those that don't not want to participate in the BS, scoffing at freedom. There are several good suggestions as to why Menards is doing this, liability CYA, curry favor with Michigan gov., get around limits on customers at a time.

The overemotional responses and fear are unfounded, just like the numbers we were told a few months back.

If you don't see the power grabs you need to broaden your reading list, particularly against constitutionally protected freedom of religion, assembly, and movement.

How can anyone say they are for freedom if they believe the government can lock you in your home without freedom becaus a virus making the rounds? Some here have equated not using a mask to murder, others here have threatened violence for the same.

We are a divided country, even divided here. My points stand as truth...

Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah every time a democrat wants to discuss gun control.

My rights don't stop where your fear begins. Restricting movements of sick people is called a quarantine. Restricting the movements of healthy people is called tyranny.

You want to wear a mask? Fine. You go right ahead and I won't stop you, but to force someone else to conform to what you want is not the way to handle this. I have seen people publicly shamed for bringing there kids to Wal Mart and even Dairy Queen. I have seen Wal Mart employees tell people what they shouldn't be buying because that's not essential.

I don't agree with people who go out in public in pajamas, but it's not my right to tell them how to dress.

So at what point is it safe?

    Trump makes the announcement?

No one ever dies of the flu again?

    Ever?

    Gabriel's Horn blows?

    A comet?

When will it be "safe" to go back out amongst the world, ever, again?

    Never.

But whatever. Sad the number that fail to see the irony in it all.

The problem is that well over 50% of people aren't even wearing them properly. Also if the mask, like some N95s, have the exhalation valve, they are not filtering the exhalation so it is literally doing no good in protecting others.
These requirements for masks are nothing more than feel good measures. I have heard from 2 Menards employees the only reason they are doing it, is so they can skirt the requirements for how many people are allowed in per sq/ft. So it all boils down to corporate greed and has nothing to do with your well being or their employees

Given my personal and professional interactions with them, this is spot on. John Menard didn't get rich by wasting money. He got it via questionable accounting practices and crappy customer service policies to control losses.

It is instructive to look at the words they choose to use, From the Illinois governor on CNN.

“Phase IV is just the phase before we would have a vaccine, assuming we maybe never get a vaccine, we’ll have to deal with hopefully a treatment that will come along that will be very effective, but even without that, everyone’s going to have to wear a mask,” said Pritzker. “We’re still going to have to socially distance. The truth is that Coronavirus is still out there.”

He is right, Coronavirus will never go away, humans will need to deal with it much like we do any other flu. Which is why the left reacts so strongly when we call it just another flu, they need this to be different, need it to be scary.

It hasn’t gone anywhere. And so we all are going to have to change the way we do things until we’re able to eradicate it. If the Chicago Tribune thinks everything will go back to complete normal without us having an effective treatment or a vaccine, they’re just dead wrong...

Anyone else see the power grab?

Smackdown by Ingomike? Meh, I'll take him seriously when he can back up the 'COVID numbers are the same as the flu' nonsense he pulled out of thin air in the other thread. Still waiting.

Agreed. And I might add, when was it ever safe even before WuVid 19 escaped from the lab. Safety has always been an illusion, a thin veneer of civility overlaying reality. That realization is why we're here and why we carry.

If we wait until it is 'safe' we will never reopen

That's the point that the majority apparently fail to see. What "day" did this thing start? January something, February something, March something? Were we any more "safe" the day before? No. But it's a Magic date so we must have been. Admit it, living in fear is the new normal and without fear you can't be protected and without protection you can't have control. Once they see this methodology works so well they'll be coming for those pesky amendments to the Constitution.

Why not? It's to make us "safe".

I will disagree with a point up thread though, I've never had a bad experience with the customer service at Menards and I've spent a BUNCH of money in there.

We drove right by Menards this morning and rolled into Lowes. That's how you stick it to these cooperate :poop:s. Spend elsewhere.

Careful, Lowes occasionally accidentally puts a straight board into their lumber. It really throws off the aesthetic of the nice warps, bows, and cork screws you normally get.

Seriously, lumber has gone to absolute crap over the past 30 years. The pre-9/11 housing boom taught them they could sell absolute crap as premium and we'd buy it. It's not properly kilned any longer and it shows. Stuff we would culled into the burn barrel in the mid 90's is prem-o stuff now.
