    In the country, hopefully.
I probably should let it drop... but since you asked...

Our forefathers took up arms before the second amendment, and any constitution. So, technically...

And they installed a whole other bunch of things to go along with the 2A, that can be used in lieu of taking up arms, e.g. a republic, checks and balances, voting.
There's been numerous cases related to the 1A, but I can't recall a single decision in which a judge wrote, "Because of the well armed militia in America..."
If there comes a time when the 2A is literally protecting the 1A, then all hell has broken loose and laws, incl. the Constitution will be disregarded in part or in whole.

It's a catchy slogan, and comforting thought that reinforces the need for an armed populace, but it doesn't square up with reality.

That's all I got. I need more coffee.
They took up arms before quill was placed to parchment but the idea that they believed in was still there, it predated that particular writing.
They also said that as soon as the voters discover they can vote largesse for themselves out of the public treasury a democracy is doomed. I know we are not a democracy, but we are still really close to that tipping point, where we will see if voting works or not. I would say it has already failed just based on fact that we are where we are in this nation.
I just don't see those checks and balances working well. Corruption is rampant. Voting is right on the verge of broken. To hold that up as "the way" has seemed hopeless for a long time now to me.
Are we not on the verge of all hell breaking loose?
It doesn't square up with reality, yet. Welcome to 2020.

Relax, you probably don't need that much coffee to argue with me.

There is a lot to be said about both these posts. Read them consecutively as if it were an ongoing and most civil conversation over a beer on the deck by a fire.
Yes the 2A is here but for crap sake every fracking lib that has ran for high office wants to put a gun Zar in place to whittle away at it. And we are loosing bits and pieces of it almost daily around the country. Back door runs at what choices we have. These holier than us offerings have stated the 2nd is in jeopardy and I am not thinking Alex Trebec (Sp) here.
No knock on the top post here but seriously..........:dunno:
Oh no, I definitely agree. The left is definitely for placing more limitations on our rights to guns--without a doubt. Just as the right is trying to place limitations or fully restrict abortion or create legislation to limit other things (particularly when it comes to domestic policy). And honestly, all this tug of war is what makes our country great. Instead of blindly accepting a path, it forces us to compromise for the good of everyone. Thanks for being civil guys. This is rare on forums such as these. Good folks here.

Sadly, or maybe thankfully, there is little compromise anymore. These jokers need to stop passing more laws and start repealing laws already on the books.

Unfortunately, politicians want to be able to say "Look at this law I passed for you".
And more unfortunately, people agree with that, instead of thinking, "I can't believe you did that to me."

My favorites are "Somebody needs to do something!" or "We send them to do something not be gridlocked!"

I find it frustrating that the same people that always want to add new laws and get the government involved in every little aspect of our lives are the very same people who are out protesting the power of the police.

Gee, Mr. Obvious, I never made the connection...

This one is hitting home for me. I'm just now finding out about this. I'm sure I wasnt consulted due to the YEARS of hassle I got from them. I'm sure they are too proud to admit I was right (which they have done repeatedly in the last 15 years) I cant wait to officially hear about this so I can give them just as much :poop: back to repay them for all the grief I've had to put up with over the years.

My SiL is a hard lefty. She used to be a Giant Reagan Republican back in the day. Then she got a degree and started teaching. Now shes as hard left as possible. To the point I think she actually HOPES her college daughter is gay. But thats another story for another day.

Anyway we have all had many discussions at the inlaws. A lot of us will sit around in the garage drinking beer and talking politics during cook outs. We disagree on a lot but we have civil discussions. Ive been told I shouldnt carry a gun because I dont know what its like to take a life. BiL uses his time overseas in the army as a badge to bolster his argument and give himself authority on the issue. Except he's never killed anyone. He's a mental health counselor and the closest he got to killing was when one of his coworkers was shot by a crazy soldier/patient; guy walked in the back door of the clinic while my BiL and his buddy were out back on a smoke break. Crazy guy took his M16 and shot his counselor as he sat at his desk, then took out several other workers. But my BiL talks like he was an 11B.

MiL told my wife this AM that on Saturday morning, Dad and my nephew and BiL went to a friend's range to shoot for "a couple hours". I've offered to take them all to the range for some education, but they never took us up on it. Dad finally rolls in at like 7PM. They were there for HOURS because the other two were having that much fun.

Anyway, the story goes that after buying an RV with their parents this past spring, SiL told him she doesnt feel comfy sleeping in the RV and he needed to get a gun for protection. Now thanks to this outing, it is discovered that he now owns 3! Including what we think is an AR-15... the gun I was told repeatedly by them that "Nobody needs an AR15!". Well, MiL said "I dunno, I think your dad said the rifle was an AK15? Is that a thing?" Either way, its a MSR, the very thing they said we didnt need and just short of told me I'm a horrible person for owning.

Another case of "you dont need it because I dont think you need it" but when they realize what we all already know, suddenly its not such a bad thing after all. And the worst part? SiL told her mom "I dont even know where he hides them in the house." So he apparently doesnt lock them up. Granted the youngest is 16, but still.

And the kicker? Years ago they vowed never to shop at Rural King because: THEY SELL GUNS! HOW DARE THEY! Pretty sure thats where he bought all of them. LOL

And after all this, I think they are STILL voting for Biden. SMH.

    Effing hypocrites.

If every democrat owned and enjoyed shooting an AR, would their reps be more or less likely to feel free to push restrictions without feeling any backlash? Pretty simple calculus there.

Nah. There are several of those democrats here that have said they'd happily give up that toy. One in particular said as long as they can "still go to the range to shoot trap, hunt with their bolt action rifle, and keep the handgun on the bedside table, they're happy with any other restriction" because nothing else (carrying a pistol, having fun with an AR15, high cap limits, etc) affects them personally. Screw those of us that would be impacted. its the price we pay to live in a safe, civilized society.

If they can't see where the dumocrap end game is going by now, then their problem is that one you can't fix.

I talked to a Democrat voting family that have more AR 15 than a small town police force. They told me that the bans won't affect them just wingnut conservatives would have to turn theirs in. Now I ask how do they get to that mindset?

In the field of*psychology,*cognitive dissonance*occurs when a person holds contradictory*beliefs,*ideas, or*values, and is typically experienced as*psychological stress*when they participate in an action that goes against one or more of them. According to this theory, when two actions or ideas are not psychologically consistent with each other, people do all in their power to change them until they become consistent.[1]*The discomfort is triggered by the person's belief clashing with new information perceived, wherein they try to find a way to resolve the contradiction to reduce their discomfort

She came over a few days ago and shocked me with these opening words. "I need to get a gun to protect myself"
I about fell to the ground. She is a hard core liberal who has hated firearms for as long as I've known her. Going on 24 years now.
She wanted to see the different types of handguns and she fell in love with my Ruger LCRX 38 Spl.
I told her she needs to get the new free 5 year permit started. I helped her as she filled the information out online. She requested my help Tomorrow selecting a new revolver and getting her finger printing done and information sent in.

Here is the biggest surprise of all. She said she is starting to see what I've been going on about all these years, and Trump wasn't as bad as she thought he was.
    I was shocked yet again.
She doesn't like all this lawlessness that the Democrat party is embracing. I really hope she is waking up enough to vote out the Democrats come November.

I thought I would share this with INGO. It kind of uplifted my spirits, and I hope it does yours as well. Maybe a lot more liberals are doing the same around the country. I sure hope so.

Great job introducing a new shooter to the hobby! That being said, I would only do the same for any of my left-leaning friends if I was absolutely certain they wouldn't try to use their new found skills to kill me for being a "fascist" (Trump Supporter.)

Running into the same thing. I've sent guns from New Jersey to California recently. Recently sold one to a well-known Indiana politician who admitted he wanted to upgrade because he's "afraid of what the crazy Trump supporters will do after he loses the election."

I took his money and told him that us conservatives have the same fears about Democrats after Trump wins re-election.

...and apparently the Gods were upset at his Biden support...he got scoped but good when we were sighting in his 30-06 bolt action...took several stitches.
