near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
We have iodine pills, miso soup, dosimeters, site readers, gas masks and Geiger counters. Our BOL is underground, nearby, and under a reinforced concrete roof, with multiple sources of water, both surface and underground. Plenty of duct tape and plastic sheeting to seal off doors.

The best possible outcome is that I have wasted my time and money.
I started with survivalism in the early 80s when we were worried about global thermonuclear war (shall we play a game?) and over the years I figured out that prepping for common, likely SHTF events automatically gave me an advantage in TEOTWAWKI. Specifically for nuclear events we have iodine and radiation monitors. That added almost no extra cost to our lifestyle of being prepared.

Having a rotating 12-24 month stock of all supplies we use, remote land we homestead, and having hardened bunkers associated with the house for protection from tornados, and a wide variety of skills and abilities are all just normal life. As the joke goes: “what are you afraid of? Not a damn thing.”

Most people are far more likely to have major life changing events such as loss of a spouse (death or divorce), medical problems, or loss of a job. Yet many folks spend far more time and effort preparing for much lower risk events like terrorist action.

Also, when you guys break out the targeting maps... :ugh:

How up to date is the map? :dunno:
How up to date is the map the attacker is using? :dunno:
    What KIND OF war? :dunno:
War is not all the same.
Are they planning on taking over real estate and/or population? Hard to do if it glows?
Also, if you need the population, causing famine kind of works against you.
If you need the factories or natural resources, radioactive decay works against you.

Maybe they just hit the 3Cs. If I remember, Command, Control, Communications.. though it's been awhile since I've talked that talk. And they probably changed the lingo by now.

There's the threat of retaliation, that always sucks.
But that don't mean you need to hit all those silos.
Much easier to take out the Command Authority several levels, at least 3 levels.
Remember, those missiles and bombers use PALs, Passively Armed Limits (or Links).
    No Command Authority, no launchy.
    Subs are better, NO PALs.
But, they have to get the message AND they need to know WHO the enemy is.
Having hundreds of nukes don't help, if you don't know who to hit.

The old theoretical mass launch by 2 sides, might not be as popular.
After all, ever hear of Nuclear Winter?
Killing doesn't help much, if your own population dies from radiation effects and a REAL global climate change.

So, being near a population center, or factory does not necessarily equate to death.

Your biggest danger will probably be the people that only keep 3 days of food in the house.
There is so much truth to this in any crisis situation, not just nuclear attack. Humans become violent unpredictable predators when faced with their own survival. It's one of the reasons people didn't talk about their fallout shelters in their basements back during the cold war because if it did happen they didn't want to have to fend off their own neighbors who didn't prep and now want to be let in.

Did you ever see the "Twilight Zone" (the old one) about a shelter?

I remember watching this in my younger days. The underlying message is correct; when faced with approaching doom, the veil of human civility is peeled off only to reveal the true intention of our nature. Survival at any cost and at the expense of others. I just pray that some of us, (most of us?) are not like mindless lemmings driven by irrational decisions and fear.

That's where I purchased my potassium iodide pills several years ago. Looks like they're in short stock.

What would be the target driectly east of Evansville? And the one directly above that one? That awfully close to home, but I can't really think of what these could be.

Edit: I realized the one directly east is probably the Rockport Powerplant, still not sure about the ones above it though.

I live in Pismo Beach, California; Vandenberg AFB (that surveils the western approaches to the U.S.) is 23 miles to the south of us (we clearly see rocket launches from there), and Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant is 13 miles to the northwest. Both are designated first strike targets... We have KI tablets in case of a 'radioactive release event' at the power plant, but I'm thinkin' they may not be enough for anything more.

I will hold the local Amish captive and make them grow food for me.
Some of them are heavily armed and practice a lot.

Meh. The likely suspects have clearly shown that some eggs must break to get the omelet.
China with the virus and Intelsat 708, Russia with Chernobyl and the Nedelin incident, NK with starvation, Iran with "sanctions." They don't really care about causalities among their own - dead people don't plot against their government.

Speaking of... does anyone have any recommendations for companies that supply dehydrated foodstuffs, etc. Kind of surprised that there isn't an 'emergency prep' forum here. Might be a little late to be doing this, but I've never been fashionably early to many parties. :/

We've been pretty happy with these:

Use them regularly for backpacking trips. The stroganoff is very good, the cheesy macaroni not so much.

Wise, Mountain House, and Augason Farms are common and quality. I'd buy soon because I heard Mountain House is talking about another price hike and Augason Farms is often out of stock due to demand.
