Well duh, yeah it was. You said an amendment to the Constitution was required to overrule a SCOTUS rulling. You're wrong.

I suppose that its senseless to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Perhaps I should make an addition to my sig line about the pointlessness of such an argument.

    "sig-lined" should be a word.

sig-line- v. to become a part of someones internet forum signature line. usually used as a manner of insult.

"dude, if you keep talking s**t im going to sig-line you."

"man, i got brutally sig-lined the other day. i cried for like an hour."

Part of the problem in answering this question is I don't know what you mean by torture. I always thought of torture as the infliction of actual physical injury (branding, cutting, shooting... the bamboo shoots under the nails sort of thing). I do have a problem with those methods. But threatening someone, psychological tactics (like waterboarding), keeping them awake and listening to rock music... I don't consider that torture and have no problem with its use against suspected terrorists.

Exactly correct! If you want to know what torture is, just ask any American who was a POW during vietnam. I also do not believe that our contitution extends to non Americans.

If they are listed as enemy combatants then the Geneva Convention prohibits it. If they are not listed as enemy combatants then our Laws prohibit it. In short it shouldn't happen. Torture doesn't work, it's been proven. If you beat some one for days they'll confess to anything in order to stop the beatings. "The beatings will continue until moral improves!" same theory there. Torture is illegal for a reason.

The libs want you to believe that torture does not work, but I can assure you it does work well. If you don,t believe that I would be happy to prove it to you, or you can research the history of the vietnam war and know the truth.

I know quite a few Viet Nam veterans, that include a number held prisoner by the NVA. Every one had conveyed to me that they gave information of what the NVA wanted to know for not necessarily for its strategic or tactical value, but much for its political value, in order to stop the pain of torture-regardless of the truth.

However, if you would care to cite credible sources that torture works, please share, and I would be happy to keep an open mind.

I would like to hear some real sources that are fact and not opinion of how torture has worked. As far as I have ever seen it is more speculation of its usefulness rather than what has really been achieved. NOW, I do believe the fear of knowing that you can and will be tortured may be very useful so that they may give up information to avoid the pain. Finally, I do not have a problem with torture on enemy combatants so that others are fearful of it.

Two recent examples of torture apparently working (if you include waterboarding as torture) Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah. Reportedly both those individuals became quite cooperative and compliant after extended periods of waterboarding. My understanding from some readings I have done on the subject is that quite often the mere threat of being sent for questioning in Egypt (part of the rendition program) or similar countries was sufficient to gain cooperation.

It is senseless. That's why I'm dropping out of this thread, witless one.
