Will do. I just hope the manager I talk to this morning doesn't have a British or Australian accent or my talk won't go far.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking that you'll hopefully get to speak with someone in management that might not have been involved that can help get to the bottom of this. That whole shift needs to be confronted.

Had a weird thing happen after I went to bed last night. My cell phone rang and the number looked familiar so I answered (normally I wouldn't). It was Papa John's, where I'd ordered the pizza for the granddaughter. They started out asking if the pizza was okay, which I thought was a little odd. I told them my granddaughter ate some and then they asked if she was okay (she was). I asked why, and they continued on. "No vomiting or passing out?" Now they really had my attention! I sat up and said, "What the hell do you mean, passing out or vomiting?? What's going on with the pizza??"

They tried to laugh it off and said they were just following up like they do from time to time. I asked, "So you just call people and ask them if they vomited or passed out after eating your pizza??" They said, "Well you can't be too careful!" That's when I told them I was going to call the cops. I heard someone in the background saying, "Oh f***! I told you someone was going to call the cops!" The guy on the phone said, "Here, give me a second and I'll patch you through to the local police." I said not to bother that I would have them come see them, and hung up. I didn't call the police.

The guy I was talking to had a British or maybe Australian accent. I don't know whether it was just some employees making a joke or whether there was more going on. At any rate, I think I'll go pay a visit to the store when they open this morning and let management know about it. I hope whomever did it loses their job, whether it was a joke or not. These days, someone could've been dealing drugs out of the store and had a spillage or something. Screw that. That's not a game you want to play. :xmad:
This could have been someone spoofing their number. There are apps that let you do that. My son called me once from Lafayette once and my caller ID showed our home phone number.

Possible but how would they know whose number to call that had recently ordered a pizza from Papa John's unless they had access to orders that had been placed. It's gotta be an employee that was involved in some fashion I would think.

Good point. I'm still waking up after a late night poker game.

Just got back from talking to them. Turns out that they were hit by scammers yesterday. Whomever called them told them they were from corporate and that some of their orders weren't going through and started asking them for a bunch of information.

When I first got there, the young lady I talked to (shift supervisor I think) said that I wasn't the first to have talked to them this morning. Someone else said they had gotten a call from "their store" accusing them of stealing money from the till when they picked up their carryout order. They said that they kept calling them back, threatening to call the police on them if they didn't return the money, etc.. Like me, the scammers knew exactly what they had ordered, so they had hacked into their system obviously. She said that her manager was going to be there any minute, so I waited until he got there.

He told me more about what had been going on and confirmed that they had spoofed their store phone number when I showed him the number on my phone. He took a picture of that, and I gave him my name and phone number. They're going to file a police report. They're also going to refund my money even though I told them that they didn't need to since it wasn't their fault, but he insisted.

I told them that as bad as this was, I was relieved that it was indeed a scam and not something going on with their employees. They were both very nice and accommodating.

Lunch plans have changed. Since they ate breakfast so late, they're not going to be ready when I am, plus they are going to go shopping and Susan said that by the time they get ready and go, they may not be back home until 3 or 4. I'm not waiting that long, so I guess we'll just be on our own today.

Turns out that you were right. I just couldn't figure out how they would've known what customer's numbers to call unless they had access to recent orders that only an employee would be able to know.

Apparently according to what DD was told an employee was unwittingly involved by being duped into giving that information to scammers who said they were a representative of corporate. It also appears that they were targeting that particular store by spoofing their number. I supposed they could've just picked that location for their scam at random though.

Hopefully all employees will be trained not to divulge that kind of information to "corporate" in the future.

Well, not exactly. The manager told me that they did not give them any sensitive info, because they were suspicious. I suspect that they'd already gained access to their system by the time that happened. Man I hate scammers! :xmad: I'd like to kill 'em all.

it doesn't make any sense for the scammers to call them representing "corporate" for customer contact information if they already had access to the system. Hopefully it wasn't divulged by an employee and the manager isn't engaging in a bit of CYA.

As I understood it, they weren't asking for customer information. More like stuff that would be more specific to store and corporate electronic communications (system stuff). The manager said that corporate would never call. They would send a regional manager or someone from corporate directly. Now they may have inadvertently given them enough info to allow them to hack into their store's system. That's just speculation on my part though. I'm just happy that they're filing a police report, although I don't have any expectation that it will do any good. The scammers could be anywhere in the world.

You really would think that phone companies/cell carriers could have some way to tell when a number was being spoofed and block any such calls from ever going through.

I think I'm going to make mac 'n cheese and broccoli for my lunch. I got a couple of boxes of "gourmet" mac 'n cheese last week at Kroger, and I'm feeling fancy. :):

Atta fancy boy. I'm kinda jealous that I don't have any. Sounds pretty good although others might be questioning why broccoli was added therefore ruining the mac' n cheese :):

I like mac 'n cheese, and I like broccoli with cheese sauce, so it's a perfect combo for me. This mac 'n cheese is Gouda and sharp cheddar. I'll add a little Aldi brand "Velveeta" to stretch it out for the broccoli.
