Is the Lee "Modern Reloading" book any good?

I did verify my powder throw was throwing the correct charge. And I charged all cases then set them in a loading block, shined a light on them, and scanned back and forth; they all had the same amount of powder in them, as near as I could tell by the naked eye. Obviously that's not concrete, but...

Is the Lee "Modern Reloading" book any good?

Is the Lee "Modern Reloading" book any good? Reason I ask, I'm having more problems with my 38 special loads. I posted on here some time ago trying to get my crimp right, and got some assistance from you wonderful guys. I was messing around with it again today. Following the Lee manual, I...

Need help with crimp, anybody got a minute?

Thank you all for the info. I'll be pulling these tonight or tomorrow and starting fresh, using the information you've all given me. And yes Mac, they are 38 special loads. 4.3 grains of HP38, they're just on the long side of the OAL spectrum because I wasn't using the cannelure, I was just...

Need help with crimp, anybody got a minute?

So the groove is supposed to be back in the case neck? That would be good to know. I was just going by the OAL recommendations in the manual. This is quite literally the first few rounds I've ever reloaded, so no information is "too basic" to be mentioned! lol

Need help with crimp, anybody got a minute?

I figured the one on the right was a drastic over-crimp, but obviously I needed verification. So the one in the middle looks closest; that's good to know. . The OAL comes out to 1.5285, which is between the minimum 1.455 and the maximum 1.550 listed in "Modern Reloading," 2nd edition. Checking...

Need help with crimp, anybody got a minute?

I've been struggling with this for several days now. I have no idea how to tell if I have any crimp, too much crimp, just enough crimp, etc. I've read the whole "if you can push the bullet deeper in the case by pushing it against the side of the bench, it's too light" advice from multiple...

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

Thanks for the idea; early February I'm going to a friend of a friends house. He reloads precision rifle ammo, and I'm going to take over some powder, projectiles, primers, and pizza. Spend a few hours with him getting tips and pointers. In the meantime, I'll just be tinkering with the 38...

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

Holy crap. With some quick back of the napkin math, he would've had about 4 times as much powder as he intended. No wonder it blew up... Thank you for the commendation for my shooting/testing procedure. I'm paranoid about blowing up my gun or myself, so I imagine I'll be doing 1-shot-strings...

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

Yeah, I have the factory crimp die, and I did use it yesterday. Perhaps it's not set low enough. To address some of the other theories. I supposed I could have accidentally poured the powder out to verify it and then forgot to put powder back in it, although I'm pretty sure that I didn't...

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

That is always a possibility jzwhts. I've got a set of "dippers" on order from Lee. Once those come in I'd like to try the same load, but by volume manually instead of using the auto feeder. That way I can be 100% sure that I loaded the right amount.

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

Yeah, I visually checked each of the 5 cases I loaded while I was working on them, they all had powder. Was running the press without the advancing rod, so it was single-stage. Bullet made it about halfway down the 2" barrel. Right now I'm leaning towards SEIndSam's and BBI's ideas; too much...

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

I'm really new to this; how can I tell how tight my crimp is? Or is it just a trial and error thing?

New Reloader Here; I got a squib with a load from the manual?

Hello all. Been a long time since I posted on the forums here, but I just recently picked up some reloading equipment and started learning how to reload. When I ran into an issue this morning, figured here would be a good place to get some advice. I bought a Lee Classic Turret Press kit, came...

I'm betting this is the first time this has ever been said....

So besides for all the grease, it wasn't that greasy, eh? Poured a quart of sweet tea down into my G17 one day. Didn't get a chance to get home and clean it all day. By the end of the day, it had a lot of extra "grip" to it...I don't think I could've dropped it if I had tried!

Can't really go wrong either way, but I would definitely call and complain to Glock again. You already spent the money on their platform, they'll make it work for you.
