The more likely reason is it was pandering to begin with and had no real hope of meeting the deadlines pulled out of a politician's prison purse.

I've been saying it for awhile. This will be another "Real ID" situation where the deadline keeps moving back. The mandate starts....now. No,....now. No, wait....now. NO, dammit.....now....Noooo...well.....

Kind of like all the "Biden is going to kill the oil industry" talk. We're in record high production levels. Politicians lie to their base regardless of what side of the aisle they are on, it's the commonest of common ground. Even if he wanted to kill the industry, he's not king, and the whole oil-apocalypse just never happened.

I'm not saying it won't *eventually* happen. But I'm not sweating it for now.

On the other hand, Biden and the EPA are actually going to push to make internal combustion powered vehicles impossible to produce forcing electric that most don't want.

If you, for some reason, want a Mustang Mach-E thingy, Ford's got a deal for you on a 2023 model.

EV or no, that thing is an abomination. The interior looks terrible. WTF designed that screen "integration" that looks like a tablet hot-glued to the dash? Not much in the way of physical buttons, either, so I assume you have to use the touch screen for HVAC and the like?

...but it's cheaper now, so if it strokes your goat jump on it.

It always hurts a bit when car companies tack on marketing terms from successful cars of the past on a current car that they really have little in common with. The original term Mach 1 or GT, from the 60s and early 70s, really meant a step up in styling and power, you paid something extra to get something more.

Sometimes the whole brand was cheapened like the Mustang 2.

I liked the retro Mustangs of recent years and still drive one, while not the same as a 1969, they had some of the style of the past and certainly good performance.

That's also the one people are referencing when they talk about an EV losing power quickly.

Did you get a resolution on this?
Resolution is that I am out $3700 to fix it. The shops in my area said that they didnt have the proper equipment to do it and so I had to take it to a Toyota dealer. Monday I am calling Toyota Customer Care Service and see if I can swing some sort of a discount. 94,000 miles on any 2011 Toyota is not much mileage.

Actually saw my first one of these in the wild last week. Well, it was Bloomington.
I'm seeing about 1-2 per day in my travels.

Talked to one guy in a Kroger parking lot, said he uses the frunk every day and loves the Lightening, aside from the few weeks a year when it's really cold out and he sees reduced range. IMO it's hard to say if that'll keep up, since he bought it and isn't leasing it.

I would expect early adopters to be quite happy with their purchases. Having the newest, latest and greatest no one else has has a special value to those folks.

I was able to say that the first few months I had my '19 Ram, before there were many of them driving around.

Thankfully, I'm still VERY happy with it. Something tells me that these Lightening owners won't have the same feeling 5 years down the road...

I love the idea of a frunk. Seriously, why would I *not* want more storage space in an easily secured and weatherproof area in my truck?

I'm just not willing to accept all the other trade offs required to get it.
