Trust me, I don't WANT to defend myself with a 3 inch knife. I just want to be able to defend myself period, and that's the best option I see with DC's laws.
An officer friend told me to hold the pink card out the window while the officer approaches the vehicle, so that he can see and think about it before you exchange words. It's a lot less awkward than some version of "I've got a gun".

You said you bought it new, but I've honestly never had any issues like this unless there were aftermarket parts of some kind in the glock. I second the idea of having an armorer take a look and, if at all possible, bring it back to stock (springs and guide rod obviously being the priority).
