That's a nice deer!
I wouldn't plan on suppressing it. It sounds though like no-one really feels strongly that I'm missing out on something if I don't go beyond 18inches..? If that's the case, I'll likely just plan to stick with that length. Also will plan to look for a nice lite barrel too...
Thanks Hohn (You helped me out when I bought my Larue as well... much appreciated.)
And thanks to all.
To summarize what I'm hearing;
It seems no one has any specific manufacturers to guide to or away from, and no-one would object to the Larue UU either in quality or value. But...
Thanks for all the replys. Good info.
Excited to get going on it.
Per the comments on the barrel length, I wouldn't be planning to go any shorter than an 18 inch.
Would a 20 inch really be that much more inconvenient or heavy? I like the idea of the added velocity/energy, but part of that...
So, a few years back I got great advice on this forum when I was first looking to get into buying my first AR. I try to come back here to get some good guidance before I make new purchases.
3 guns, 5 scopes and a pile of other equipment/accessories later, I'm looking to do another gun.
For...
Just wanted to let everyone know that Hornady will have Frontier ammo available for the Grendel in 2020. I asked them over email if they'd ever consider making Frontier Grendel and they responded that it will be available next year.
It looks like the Larue kit gives the option to go with their stealth (heavy) barrel or the PredatAR (Light) barrel. Any recommendations? Again, this is for all around usage so no specific focus.
My first thought is to get the heavier barrel. I can't imagine that its that much heavier to lug...
Nice to hear from you again Seedubs. I really am loving that Sionics you recommended.
Awesome info again, thanks to both of you.
I had been really thinking about going with that ALG trigger that Hohn mentioned (because of the universal good reviews for it) but that Larue deal gets me a 2...
When I first found this forum and posted a request for advice on buying my first two AR 15s, one of the first and most common comments I got back was that "These guns tend to breed....". Well, I understand that now. I'm looking at building a third gun for various reasons and would like to ask...
So, after I boresite it to get a rough zero. Do I need to buy some high quality ammo to fine tune it?
I've bought some Winchester 223, federal xm855 stuff, and have some xm193 partisan on the way. Is any of that good enough to dial it in?
Recommendations?
That last comment was in response to churchmouse...
SO if I go buy the feeler gauge and just use enough blades to loosely fit under the scope base, and then tighten up the ring screws (I would assume I need to tighten them in a pattern like lugs nuts?...) then check to make sure the clearance...
Haha :)
"Somewhere" is in the Salt Lake City area, so it would be quite a drive....
Thank you though. Really nice to be among people that are so willing to help out...
tradertator,
thanks for the info.
Here are a couple pics of my rifles. Don't konw if this angle gives enough perspective to make it useful but it's what I've got on my PC right now. If additional pics would be useful, let me know.
Both scopes are milradian. until Mgderf and churchmouse gave...
Churchmouse,
Good to know it can get that accurate that easily. I'll try exactly what you said. I assume you are just placing the horizontal crosshairs a very small distance above the laser? (Like maybe the height of the dot?)
Thanks.
Mgderf, you're 100% correct. I was doing inside the house. I hadn't thought about the height of the scope relative to the barrel... I'll try it outside tonight.
Thanks for the help.
With the help of many members on this forum, I recently purchased my first two AR-15s. I've mounted Vortex scopes on both of them. 1 rifle has a 2.5 - 10 adjustable scope , the other has a 1 - 4. Both Scopes are mounted on Vortex branded single piece scope mounts. I also purchased a little...
Somebody in the thread asked if I'd post pics of the guns once i got them.
here they are....
the LWRC is beautiful and great to hold. I haven't been able to go out and shoot either gun yet but based on just initial impressions I would have loved to have just bought 2 of these LWRC guns...
