It was my first center fire hand gun back in the '60's but I sold it when I went into the service. I went back to it about 10 years ago. I use it in my Ohio CCW classes to show students what a good handgun should feel like. I have had several offer to buy it but it is not foe sale.
I have a pre-Taurus carbine in 45 colt. It is one of my favorites. I reload most of my rounds and use black powder substitutes rather than smokeless. The guys at the range kid me because I smoke up the range but of course every one of them wants to shoot it. I love the way it handles and it...
I use both Varget and H335. I have three rifles in 223. Two are AR's and one is a bolt. There is plenty of load data out there for almost any bullet. Just follow the starting load data and develop it from there. I have about 15 H335 loads from 36 to 80 Gr. and about 15 Varget loads from 36...
An earlier post talked about the Glacier Girl P-38 that was dug out of the Ice in Greenland. My father was a P-38 pilot and we got involved a little in the rebuild.
The P-38 had 4 Browning 50's and a 20mm cannon. One of the 50's was taken out of the ice, cleaned and lubed. It fired perfectly...

The front sights are not for the gas block. They are too short AND because they are plastic, Magpul says they won't handle the heat. They are designed for handguard rails.
I use the Gen 2 rear sight and I like it.
I have been trying several different fixed and folding front sights on my gas...
I teach Ohio Concealed Carry classes near Cincinnati at our gun club.
Last week we conducted our first ever women's class. 12 women participated and the class was a great success. Several were first time shooters but all qualified with perfect scores. One of our NRA instructors is female and...
My Hi Point 995 has more perceived recoil than either of my 223 rifles. One is an AR and the other is a bolt action. It is all in the equipment and the way it is designed. The 995 just slams things around. It is still fun to shoot. It is even worse than my 45 Colt lever action.
When it comes to self defense, carry what you shoot best. If you can't hit the target in a defensive situation because the gun doesn't fit you, then why bother. I carry a Browning Hi-Power because that is what I shoot best. I love revolvers but I don't shoot them as well.
It must be very...
It was said before and I'll say it again. Let her pick. All of the pistols mentioned here are great. Some are better for this or for that but ultimately, she has to be comfortable with it. She will shoot better with what she feel fits her better.

I have an FN made A2 upper. The front sight assembly is also stock and made by FN. To the best I can tell, this thing has never been disassembled. The front sight assembly is tilted to the left. It is almost impossible to see but the rear A2 sight must be shifted left (windage) to...
They are the same and 45 Colt is the proper name. The cartridge is so large because it was originally made for black powder. BP is bulkier.
What will you be shooting the 45 Colt rounds in?
I have several pistols and even a lever action carbine chambered in 45 Colt. There never was a rifle...
If you can afford the Savage, get it. If you need cheaper, get the Stevens. I have a Stevens 200 in 223 and a friend has a Savage in 223 (non-accutrigger). The Savage has a better look and more features but we can't tell the difference in accuracy. With either, find what ammo it likes and...
