Apparently the 18 heads had been shipped from the US to Italy for medical research. They were being shipped back to the US for cremation and disposal when improper paperwork caused them to be opened and discovered by Customs.

It was later determined the full bodies of origin were all those of 18 married men.

How did they determine this you may ask? Because...they were just the bodies...with no head.

OK, the linked article uses the word "skulls" and "heads" interchangeably. These mean very different things, IMO. In the former case, I'd be all like but in the latter, I'd be all like
