I'd normally would have asked Churchmouse this question. Really miss having him around.

I have two 1911's one is a Ronin 45acp the other is an RIA Ultra FS 10mm.
I've been buying parts for other firearms to store for just incase you need it right away or in the future if you can't buy them for some unknown events.

    My questions are.

Will any 1911 extractor work with my 1911's?
Will a 45acp extractor work with 10mm, and vise versa?

Do they need fitted for each or are they drop in. I remember CM telling me that if it's a 1911 just about everything needs fitted.

I'm looking at Wilson Combat extractors to buy for spares. Are they about the best or is there a better extractor?

    I'm looking at these currently.

As long as the 1911 has internal extractor they all pretty much fit in the gun.

But 45 extractors do not work with 10mm

9mm 40 and 10mm extractors are compatible with each other.
Also there is a difference between 70 series and 80 series extractors.

One of the best quality extractors on the market is EGW HD extractor.
I would choose them over Wilson.

Yes they need tuned when installed.

    IMHO

There may be some fitting needed. It will also require some tuning, although that is simple enough.

ETA: I see AllenM answered. I would defer to him.
I have read some of the 1911 guys having a couple of extractors fitted for the gun when they order a Les Baer.

Just a note : EGW HD Extractor will take a little more work to fit correctly. Lots of extra material everywhere. I use them on my 1911s but also have fitted a few of their Practical Extractor also. Can't go wrong with either one.
I also replace the Firing Pin Stop at the same time, I prefer the flat bottom one.

I'll probably take both 1911's in and have my gunsmith do the work. Just to be sure everything is as it needs to be. Then take the originals and save them for backup.
