I recently shot a 1911 with a smaller size safety it is very similar to the safety on a Browning Hipower. I really preferred it versus the oversized safety on mine.

Is there such a thing as a drop in safety or do they have to be fit to work?

    Thank you.

I'm assuming you're asking about the thumb safety, right? If so they pretty much need to be fit to the frame and sear on you gun.
But cant you just recontour the thumb safety?

Even most grip safety's have to be fit up to a 1911.
Thumb safety is more critical fit.
Let someone with the knowledge and proper tooling do this work.

That was going to be my call as well. Does it matter what brand thumb safety I go with? I am thinking of having both the thumb safety and Mag well switched out at the same time. Problem is finding someone to do the work in a timely manner.
    Thanks

I use Smith/Allen Mag wells but there are several good pieces available.
As to the safety's, Ed Brown, EGW are my choices.

Brownells has a pretty fair selection.

If you were up here there are a few smith's that have s good turnover time.
