Anyone that members of INGO recommend for 1911 smithwork? Specifically adding beavertails and bobs. Allen still do it? Ray Saltzman, maybe? What kind of labor price should I be looking at? Any other things I should consider? Refinishing (Blued/Parkerized vs. Stainless)? Details, details. Keep 'em coming.

Here is an option if you dont want to pay a smith for the custom work.
1911 AUTO DROP-IN BEAVERTAIL GRIP SAFETY - Brownells
some minor fitting might be required, but it allowed the use of a skeletonized hammer and a SLIGHTLY higher grip, not quite as good as going with a geniune ed brown or wilson. The downfall to this is if it doesnt blend in perfectly, you might end up sending it to a smith anyways, but for the price it might be worth a try.

I would expect to pay around 100 dollars to have a smith regrind the frame, blend the beavertail in, and fit the new beavertail to the trigger bar. its around a 2-3 hour job at least. this does not include refinishing. If you do send it to a smith, see if you cant get a trigger job tossed in for cheap because you are already spending so much money.

Indy refinished my 1911, installed nights sights, and did it quicker than I thought and for a great price. PM if you'd like to hear more about my experience with him.
