I am very pleased to announce another successful handgun silhouette championship at the Riley Conservation Club. The 2023 IHMSA Championship was again the largest handgun silhouette match in the country, this time with 249 entries from 10 states. The 5 1/2 day match ran on schedule despite a couple mechanical failures. The Vigo County 4H Shooting Sports Club kept us on our 15 minute relay schedule and were rewarded handsomely via the tip jar by the shooters. An IHMSA world record was tied each of the last two years.
Typically, older shooters use their experience as an advantage in a precision sport. But Junior shooters this year showed no mercy on their elders. It seems some of them keep lists. List "A" is the adults they've beaten. List "B" is the adults they're going to beat. Your name is somewhere!! With Junior scores of 59x60 from Alexis, 58x60 (two of them) from Gabby, and 56x60 from Cody, they showed they can compete with anyone. Only a perfect score kept you from getting your ass handed to you by a 12 year old.
Kudos to the RCC board for their continued support of this event. Handgun Silhouette has been holding state and regional (multi-state) championships at RCC since the late 1980's, and RCC had the foresight to put in sand backstops in recent years that creates sharper target definition for open sight guns at distances to 200 meters. The 24x120 ft covered firing line provide ample shade for the shooters and their spotters.
