Fall has just officiallyhit, the corn is turning along with the beans and the leaves. The 3-Gun seasonthough is far from over!
With all the 3 Gun buzzthe last few years and especially the 2014 shooting season. The Action ShootingSports Dept. of Aurora Sportsmen's Club in Waterman, IL (www.AuroraSC.org)felt that we must finally spread our wings and expand beyond our wildlysuccessful monthly Practical Rifle and IDPA matches and begin a journey intothe world of 3-Gun.
Several of thedepartment members spent the 2014 season cutting their teeth in the sport andwith the help of the guys at wildly popular Polo 3 Gun, we have been bitten bythe bug. One of the main draws for our club is the shear size and the distanceswe can shoot at just over an hour west of Chicago. We have the land, we havethe ranges, we have the distance and we have the people to bring a world classmatch to the heart of Northern Illinois.
Our departmentapproached the ASC board of directors a month ago with a plan and a ratherlarge grant was approved for additional equipment of which $3500 was steel.Along with that, 6 bays were granted; 600yd, 200yd, 50yd, (2) 25yd and a large50' bay. We feel the stages we have created drawing from our 2014 experience atclub level and regional 3 Gun matches as well as years in 2-Gun Tactical,Practical Rifle, USPSA and IDPA. Will be friendly enough for the newer 3-gunnerand challenging and fun enough even for the Pro level shooter.
Our success in this lastminute 2014 fall match will determine the 2015 season. If it is a success, youcan expect a full season of 3-Gun at ASC. We will be offering 3-4 matches onalternating months along with Polo 3 Gun which will give 7-8 full months ofclub level 3 Gun Nation matches in the heart of Northern IL.
The match is limited to60 shooters since this is an exhibition match. We want it large enough to havea great match but small enough to be manageable our first time around. Asmentioned earlier there will be 6 stages, each having a par time of 90 seconds(though this might change slightly) and a fairly decent round count. Minimumround count to neutralize is 17 rifle, 68 pistol, 67 birdshot and 3 slugs. Wewill be using 3 Gun Nation rules and 3GN official cardboard targets, though weare not a 3GN sanctioned club at this time.
Currently we are workingon plaques for division leader's and a small prize offering as we are able.This end of things is still developing and nothing is firmed up as of yet.
