Will a 40x rim fire trigger work on a 700

The 'Type 2' 40X trigger should work on a 700 short-action, yes. If the 40X trigger is from an older 722 based model, it will NOT due to the difference in the location and format of the safeties.

Give me a minute, and I'll post pics of the two type.

    A little more help....

Older rimfire 40X rifles are the 722 action.

Newer rimfire 40X's are actualyy model 40XB, and the rifle and possibly the trigger will have a serial # that has a 'B' in it. These triggers will fit the 700.

Have to admit that it's obvious there's some animosity there, but why ridicule someone for providing some really good technical advice?

Thanks, trigger I was looking at is for a 722 40x, won't work with my 700.

FWIW, I just put a Timney trigger in the new 300 Win Mag I am building up. It's an awesome trigger. It absolutely blows the craptastic Xmark Pro trigger away that was in it. I have 2 other 700's that are going to get the same treatment.
