    A holler in Kentucky
I know there have been a few threads recently here about carry in Indiana casinos, and the subject of secure storage has come up in all of those threads, so today, I went to Horseshoe Southern Indiana and tried my hand at checking a firearm at the entrance to the casino.

Wife got a gift card to use in the Legends restaurant, and we had nothing much to do today, so we decided to head to Horseshoe for lunch, and then do a little gambling in the casino (when I say a little gambling, I mean a little, we usually will take $10 each, and play the penny slots:):). We had a nice lunch in the restaurant and headed down the escalators to the casino. Upon arrival at the security gate, we were cheerfully greeted by two security guys, and I told the one closest to me I had a firearm to put in the safe. He didn't even blink, and directed me towards the other gentleman there, and said "he'll take care of you, Sir". I was greeted with a smile by the other guard who said "step right over here around the gate and I'll get your info" He asked to see my DL, and grabbed a clipboard with a roster sheet on it. He handed me a numbered plastic card and told me not to loose it, and wrote down my name, type of firearm, and the time of day on the sheet, then signed his name to it and handed my DL back. As he handed the DL back, I noticed him looking back and forth between it and me, I guess making sure I was me:D.

After he put the clipboard down, he walked a few feet over to a heavy, locked door, and proceeded to unlock it, revealing a double set of steel safe doors, which he then unlocked. The interior of the safe was maybe 3 feet wide and about 5 feet high, with about a dozen separate compartments. I brought along a Remora IWB holster for my SR45 so I could just leave my holster on my belt. I unholstered and quickly reholstered into the remora, and placed it on the shelf he pointed to. The security guy locked both doors back, wished us good luck in the casino and shook my hand as we walked away.

We were in the casino for about an hour and a half, pretty much broke even, and decided to head home, so we returned to the security gate where the same two guys were still standing. They saw me coming, and the one guy went over and started unlocking the safe as we approached. He held the door open while I retrieved my gun, and quickly reholstered on my belt. The older of the two security guys asked me how the Ruger shot, as he hadn't seen an SR45 before, we talked guns and holsters for a few minutes, and he informed me he was a retired deputy sheriff. Very nice and polite guy. I handed him back the claim card he had given me, and he once again shook my hand and wished us both a great day.

I was not sure what to expect from security there, but was pleasantly surprised at the attitude of both guards on duty, no funny looks, no silly questions, no asking me to remove the magazine or unload the weapon, just professional conduct by a couple of nice guys. Big +1 to Horseshoe Southern Indiana security!:yesway:

Thread resurrection: we’re spending an evening in French Lick, and earlier today I checked my edc at the Casino here. I’m happy to report that all went very well, and the couple of different folks I dealt with in checking my gun in and reclaiming it were very pleasant to deal with. At French Lick, the system is a little easier and faster than the system used at Horseshoe casino in Elizabeth, you step into a small room, show the security guy your ID, and he writes your name down on a sheet, then gives you a numbered key to a safe deposit box, you put your property in, lock it, and keep the key. When you return, you show your ID, sign next to your name on the sheet, unlock the box and your done. Easy process, no dumb questions, no weird looks.

How hard would that be to do at Lucas stadium?

Or any fair sized stadium / arena

Lucas Oil doesn't have enough room for all the lockers they would need. :):

I played the game at Indiana Grand a few years ago just to see how they did it. Maybe it's time to test the waters again because it caused considerable distress among their security. Had to leave the ammo in my truck. The guy at the door called for a supervisor. The supervisor made copies of my LTCH and DL. Had me place the gun in a locker along with the copies. Had to call the supervisor back to open the locker when I left. He offered to dispose of the copies but I told him I'd take them, thank you.

I asked the security guy today “so, I guess I need to put my extra mags in the box, too”? He said it wasn’t necessary but I could if wanted. Like I said, I dealt with a couple different people, and not a one so much as raised an eyebrow.

The casinos are no longer required by law to have a lock box for you.

I tried to check mine in Anderson and they told me to leave it in the car. I posted about it and will see if I can find it.
