is it possible or legal to thread your own barrel if you have the right size threading dies. I have an AR with a smooth barrel an no threads for a flash suppressor
I'm wondering if I can do it or do I have to replace the barrel to accept a threaded flash suppressor. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Yes you can, but you need to research your barrel, making sure you know the correct dimensions of it, and the muzzle attachment you wish to utilize. You may need a lathe to turn it down, then you also need to remember that it needs refinishing.

I had it done once with a non-threaded barrel. It cost $50 to turn the end of the barrel down and thread it. No refinishing required. The cheapest AR barrel I ever bought cost $90 and it was threaded for a flash suppressor. So I saved a couple bucks by threading my barrel. It shot good both before and after threading.

You cannot thread the barrel yourself without a lathe. And of course. your barrel will have to be removed to thread it.

And yes, it is legal to add a flash suppressor to your rifle.
