Okay, got a MagPul MOE Forend recently on closeout [1]. Ended up with FDE (closeout colors limited), but want it black to match other furniture.

What's the best method to change the color? I've seen everything suggested from RIT fabric dye to spray paint. What's the best/most durable?

The cheapskate in me likes the idea of inexpensive RIT fabric dye, but I wonder if it will rub off, etc.

    What say ye INGO!

I doubt that RIT dye would rub off. It gets into the plastic.

Yeah, I've seen some pics showing the depth the dye penetrated some plastic CMMG mags.

Not sure how applicable that might be to whatever polymer MagPul is using/was for their MOE furniture.

Rit dye. Get some green to add to the black to take out the bluish purple tint. I've used this method to dye a pink handgun polymer frame with great success. Just a note any major gouges will show the original color underneath though as the dye doesn't penetrate incredibly deep.

Just now having a chance to get back to this. Thanks for all the feedback! As I mentioned in the first post, I ended up getting a Magpul forend on clearance. Only FDE was available for this model. Hence, the mission was to get a black (blackish) forend to match other existing furniture.

    Here's the forend as received:

Pretty happy with the final result:
