caliber for ar platform

if i wanted to put together an ar for target only action, 500 to 1000 yds, thought about 6 mm, 308, and 338 lapua, anybody have any practical experience or ideas. not 100 % sure i'm gonna do it, just kicking it around.

I like the 308 win. cause ammo is cheaper that most custom ammo, & there are plenty of 308 win. match ammo

This a no-brainer. The 6mm Creedmore. Don't even consider the 338.

The 308 is the second choice.

Of course, you know it will be the AR10, not the AR15 platform?.....

And yes, I have practical experience with 1000 yard target shooting.

but if you want to stick with the ar15 platform I would go with the 6.5 grendal for longer ranges...I am starting one of these pretty soon also...may not be 1000 yards but I would think 5-800 is possible.
