So I have a brother who dropped his Remington .50 caliber muzzle loader out of his tree stand. I have a nasty suspicion that it bent the barrel when it hit the ground.

Does anybody have .50 caliber barrel straightness gauge and can check his barrel? I know this is a really specialized request but I'd like to help him out. If they can't, any suggestions about who can?

2 "v-blocks" and a dial indicator should give ya an idea if its a straight barrel. Shouldn't matter if its a straight, tapered or swamped barrel. Put it in the v blocks , set the dial indicator on the section to be checked, rotate and observe the measurements is my thoughts.

I have a tool to check this, as long as both ends are open.

Did it land on a rock or other hard object?

If not, you might be surprised how durable they be.

Has it been fired since the..mishap?

I watched Myth Busters Bend a .22lr barrel on purpose.
They bent it a few degrees and fired it, just to see if they could.
It worked. So they bent it a few degrees more and fired it again.
They kept this up until the barrel had an arcing 90° bend on it and they shot it around a corner.

    Bent barrel will still fird.
Aiming it might be a challenge.
