So I'm in the market for a new to me car. I like in the Chevy hhr been researching a few weeks. I don't want the Chrome package it cost more and I don't like the looks.

Today I was checking out one on the lot. The salesman tries to push me toward the Chrome car. I told him that car is a year older, more miles and $1000 more. His reply "But it has chrome door handles and mirrors"

Guess I'm not buying from him.

He gets it. He's hoping you don't.

Did you tell him prior to this exchange that you didn't want the chrome package?

We had an HHR as a rental a year or so ago, I'm not a small guy, and that thing was seriously uncomfortable for me to drive. Maybe something to think about.

Like 88GT said, he gets it, he's just trying to push you towards what he wants you to buy. Just walk away. I actually sort of like BSing with car salesmen.

The only thing that Used Car salesmen are good for, is target practice. My ex father-in-law owned his own small dealership in the 50's, and the name of it was........BEEHIVE MOTORS - GET YOUR HONEY HERE!

I know, it was the tackiest slogan I've ever heard! Tacky, stupid, moronic, offensive, and downright worthless not to mention VERY embarrassing!

Rented an hhr to drive to Iowa to buy my civic and I absolutely hated that thing. It's uncomfterable, visibility sucks and the defroster was awful. And that damn thing had less the 15,000 miles on it and was like new. Worst vehicle I've ever driven.

I told him twice I don't want chrome.

I drove a few of them and it is a small car but i I have a escort now so not a give diff. I did drive a cobalt and it hurts my back so can't do those.

The viability is kinda small but a few mins it doesn't bother me.

When I have to go car shopping I treat salesmen like children who are in trouble stern and direct. I let them know three things I know about BEFORE I buy are electronics, cars and firearms. The car we are talking about is the one I'm interested in don't try to lead me around to find "something in my price range". If they can do this we can do business if not I will not say a word and walk out.

I don't think he liked it when I told him I can go 50-75 miles from fort Wayne and save $2000-3000. I look at it this way. I do my research don't sell me on a car if I like it ill buy it. If you have to sell me I won't like it inthe long haul.

I have never had luck with the Ft Wayne dealers, and had to drive to get a deal.
Sadly the used car market sucks right now, which makes it tough finding what you want at a good price.

Being a new/used car salesman for almost 1 year qualifies me to be a car salesman's worst nightmare.

The last 2 vehicles I purchased, before the sales guy even started talking, I told them that the first sign of BS out of them, I was gone and I was not here to play games by wasting his or my time. I knew what I wanted and all about it before I walked onto the lot. It saved me a lot of hassle, got the deal I wanted and he and the dealership made a sale.

It was a win all around.

4 years ago I was sitting in a chair at Andy Mohr Chevy in Plainfield with the salesman and Sales Manager and told them that right after shaking hands with them, letting them know it was a GM purchase while sitting down with them. I got out of my chair 1 minute later when I asked about trade in values and the Sales Manager tells me "Well it depends on what you buy".

I stood up, told him it was a GM purchase, what I buy has no effect on what my trade in is, it's two separate transactions and walked out the door.

I refuse to be intimidated or manipulated, I want it straight up and forward, and not to be screwed around with.
