I am interested in picking up a M1 Garand. I am looking into the CMP. It appears that you have to be a member of of a CMP affiliated organization in order to qualify to purchase from them. I am looking for some suggestions on good clubs that are easy to join in north east Indiana. My main goal is to qualify with the CMP in order to buy a rifle. But it would be an added bonus to get involved with a club with good people to chat with and from whom I can learn a few things.

You need to talk to sloughfoot. He has all the information you will need to join a club and pick up a Garand.

Look into it because I may be wrong but The Appleseed project may be a triple wammy for you. Great fun along with marksmanship and history education, plus IIRC the 2 day event qualifies as the CMP training requirement and membership in the revolutionary war vetrans association qualifies as an organization membership. Again, this is 3+ year old memory so I could be really wrong. I know attending the 2 day event meets the training requirement, I'm not sure about the RWVA membership thing.
