We're legal to work 70 in an 8 day period but taking 34 consecutive hours off resets that 70 hour clock. We're allowed to drive 11 hours a day but that has to be within a 14 hour window that starts when we start each day and dispatch does their best to fill our day out completely. I'm a local driver these days because I've paid my dues and spent my time in the 5'x8' coffin, but local is a lot more work.

A pneumatic bulk tank company just south of Greencastle. Haul cement, flyash, and powdered lime. I took the job because I was told they were doing 8-10 hour days but I haven't seen many of those. I actually did have a somewhat short day today. Left at 3 am went to Jeffersonville then back to Indy and made it back to the yard a little after 1 pm. It's not hourly, but it's pretty good. Our pay structure is too complicated to explain on here.

For some reason the name isn't coming to mind, but the location is. I understand about the pay structure. I once spoke with a driver working under circumstances similar to my own at the time. I received a flat rate per mile pay which was at the high end of the normal scale in exchange for not specifically paying for some non-driving tasks. He received basically similar pay but he received a significantly lower per mile rate, a fixed amount for unloading, an hourly amount for waiting more than a given length of time, and some other twists which led me to the conclusion that he had more work in figuring his weekly pay than I had in doing my taxes.

Most other alternatives coming to mind are either just as much time, maybe more, or probably don't pay as well or as consistently. I have a rather unique position right now. My brother has restarted my dad's trucking company so I make relatively short trips although that won't work as standard even as he puts more trucks on the road. Right now we are only operating two, one for each of us, and I am limited to day trips since I have animals to look after.

Yeah, I was offered a job in terre haute that I should've looked at closer. It was one of our customers from the flatbedding years and I thought about it and passed. Then a buddy of mine got the job and got $850 a week salary, full benefits, bonuses, and works 35 hours a week. He just texted me yesterday to tell me he got a bonus that doubled his paycheck this week, then got a 3 day weekend. I won't make that mistake twice. The company I work for is headquartered in Columbia, Kentucky.

Just spoke to my uncle.. retired navy weapons specialist .. been driving a truck for 30 years.. I asked him if he carrys and he made it crystal clear that its illegal. I have still yet to find anything stating this..

Does anyone here know a DOT officer that could ask? I may just have to find one and see what they say.

If you do find an officer to ask, there is a high probability they will try to convince you it is illegal. If so, ask for citation of specific law.

Show me in the cdl rule book where it says it's illegal.
Against most company policies, but not against the law.

Why is there a high probability that a DOT officer would convince you something that, something assumedly legal, is illegal?

I've been a commercial driver for over 30 years, never had a problem, I carry everyday, employers probably have a company rule about no weapons but that is only a company rule not a law. The only problem might be if you are forced dispatch and they send you to Crane Naval or the Airport , or someplace that is a no gun zone.
there is no law that say you can't carry in a commercial vehicle, if there was every company would have the code number fully posted in multiple places at the company office, don't discuss guns in the work place don't give them any idea you carry and you won't have a problem.
