I had sent my slide into Calhoun Custom Firearms for some mill work done. Originally I was thinking I would just do Novak sight cuts. But after viewing the website I thought "why not?". I love my 1911 so I thought I would give it a custom touch.

    Mill work that was done:
    Novak sight cuts
    Front slide serrations
    Flattened on the 45 degree
    Ball milled on the top

Tim did excellent work and I couldn't be happier.

It started as a plain ol' mil spec Springfield. I have plans and will keep updating.

Looks awfully nice! What was your thinking on the top edge ball cut? Cosmetic /style only, or does it have some anti-glare or other function? Not that i think every feature always has to have a function, but I'm curious.

I got it because I liked it cosmetically. I do believe it serves as anti-glare though. I saw it on his 40cal 1911 work he did.

That's a nice job they did on your piece there. Does the milling work reduce weight noticeably?

Looks good. I would have preferred the front serrations to match the rear but I know that can be hard to match sometimes. Looks as if quite a bit of metal was removed, do you think you might need a different recoil spring to compensate for the loss of weight?

I'm happy with the front serrations. The pictures make the serrations look different, but they are accually the same cut and angle... optical illusion. That's a good question about throw recoil spring. I should have weighed the slide for before and after.

I plan on having it cerakoted. I'm going to radius the tangs on the frame and fit a Smith and Alexander beavertail to it. It currently has a Wilson beavertail but has that ugly gap. I had already replaced the trigger.

Tried my hand at fitting a smith and alexander beavertail. I bought the jig to .220 radius the tangs.
