from the article: "You have got to hand it to the FBI, ................. they do think outside the box."

from the comments below article: "It’s a shame they think outside the box of the Constitution too otherwise one wouldn’t mind them so much."

    :laugh::laugh::laugh: so true!

    screw the .40!

I wonder if that purchase actually happened? This is the first I'm hearing of it. The press release also mentions the FBI using RRA LAR15 carbines, which again I had not heard of (unless they piggybacked on the DEA order from several years ago).

    Finally, I'll echo esrice's sentiments. :n00b:

These probably replaced the HK's that are used on entry teams I would imagine. I mean how much can you really gain on a .40 using a Carbine Length Barrel?!

I've got some chrono data I can find if you are really interested from my G22 and my SUB2K.

I did do some 'experimental' reloading useing slower powders and got some impressive results out of the .40 Short and Weak! I won't post the loads, but will put up the velocities if anyone's interested...

    I am definitely interested!!!

I have been contemplating a Pistol Cal AR myself. However, if it is not a 9mm or a .45 build, I am leaning towards a .357 Sig...

I know I need therapy for this... :D

Sorry to take so long in getting back. Didn't have as much data as I'd thought but here it is.

Factory Blazer Brass case 180gr FMJ
    Glock 22 avg 1003fps
    SUB2K avg 1130

Winchester 180gr FMJ over 5.0 gr of Red Dot
    G22 918
    SUB2K 1044

Win 180gr FMJ over 5.0 or Alliant Promo
    G22 1003
    SUB2K 1147

Lee cast 170gr SWC in the SUB2K
    5.0gr of Promo 1210
    5.0gr of Red Dot 1138

'experimnetal' loads using slower pistol powders attained averages of 1350fps and 1562 (!) fps with the 170gr SWC. That is easily into 10mm power range.

The big benefit of the Kel Tec is that I can easily hit a man sized target at 100 yards and can shoot up close much faster than a pistol (proven out many times at Friday Night Steel!)

Low end 10mm range. Look at some of the higher end loadings of 10mm

Double Tap 180gr Controlled Exp. JHP
    180gr. @ 1350fps/ 728 ft/lbs- Glock 20
    180gr @ 1136fps/ 516 ft lbs- 100yds Glock 20
    180gr @ 1270fps out of Glock 29

Double Tap 165gr. Brass Jacketed HP
    165gr 1400fps/ 718ft./lbs. - Glock 20
    165gr 1175fps / 506 ft lbs 100yds Glock 20
    165gr Glock 29 - 1340fps Muzzle

10mm can shoot hotter out of a Glock 29 3.78in barrel than a 40 can out of a 16in barrel. Sorry but the 40 is still short and weak:D

It might be short and weak but so is a midget that runs up and head butts you in the testicles... it still gets the job done.
