Went to the range for the first time yesterday with my new Glock 23. Had a great time. However, my pattern (hope that's the right term) was down and to the left of the target fairly consistently. Would appreciate any opinions on how I might correct that. Maybe I just need more practice.

If you are right handed, here is a diagram that can assist:

I think that you are anticipating the recoil from the firearm. I had that same problem until recently. I bought some snap caps and worked on dry firing and paid attention to the gun after the trigger was pulled to make sure I wasnt pushing the barrel down. After dry firing a hundred times or so, I went back to the range and I was hitting to the point of aim every time. Hope this helps.

Down and left from right handed shooters is extremely common with people new to Glocks, get the trigger pull down, a little bit of practice and it'll be right were you want it.

Use a firm 2 handed grip and squeeze the shot should always be a supprise. Get your sight picture, dont worry too much about a wobble, take a breath let it out and squeeze until it goes bang.
    Practice, practice, practice.

So as a left handed shooter do I just reverse the left and right of the diagram? I've been finding myself shooting high left lately
