Anyone have an old Gerber BMF? If so do you use it or keep it for a collector? My reason for asking is i just picked one up in like new condition and I'm on the fence weather use the crap out of it or put it up.

Normally I only pick up knives to use and did the same with this one but now seeing the value of some of these things and how much they have gone up in just the last few years makes me think otherwise.

Mine is a 30,xxx serial # and I know that they went into the mid 60,xxx range which tells me that it is a fairly old and I just can't make up my mind weather or not to beat on it like all my other knives.

If its new, I'd keep it new.

I picked one up from an old guy who had it in a gun safe for 25 years, serial number under 200, with original box, mint. I couldn't bring myself to use it.

    Heck of a knife, enjoy!

Nobody else has one? Or nobody else wants to talk about theirs? Lol. Surely there are mor than two of us ingo'ers who have one.

It's a beast of a knife at 1/4" thick and almost 14" OAL with 8 3/4" blade. The only thing I don't know about is the blade steel. I'm pretty sure it's made from 440. I've never had another 440 knife so I'm not sure about it.

I've got an original BMF and LMF knife. In my opinion, they were made to be used. I love both, the BMF has followed me on numerous hiking trips. Save the fancy knives for the collectors box, use the BMF, it was made for it.

Funny you should post this today. I've decided to use the BMF as of earlier today. I hate collector knifes. They are all made to be used, and not put In a safe somewhere to collect value. The BMF is a hell of a user knife. Its not the highest quality steel, but still a beast. It will go in my shtf bag and be used here and there for the mean time. I've decided to keep it and beat the **** out of it. Thanks for your post.
