Well, I picked up a Gerber EVO Tanto to use as a simple cutting blade for uniform work. I couldn't find much info on them, but it was cheap and I got to check the lockup and such before buying. So far, I'm pretty happy with it.

I have no idea what "surgical steel" is, but if it doesn't specifically mention the steel type, that worries me. But for $20, I'll run with it. It will hold me over until I pick up a kershaw burst or something along those lines.

Anyone recommend any good sharpening items for this cheap blade?

I know of Gerber's hit or miss reputation.

I think most of their cheaper stuff is some form of 440 stainless, but it might be 8cr13mov which is pretty common in the cheaper China made folders nowadays.

My favorite beginner sharpener is the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's probably going to run you more than the knife, but its a good investment and you'll be surprised with all the crap around the house you find to sharpen (kitchen knives, scissors, fish hooks, etc......).
