Gun Oil on Knives?

This may be a dumb question, but is it ok to use gun oil on knives?? I assume it wouldn't hurt the blade at all.

I've used it. I probably wouldn't put it on a blade I was going to use for food prep, but beyond that I don't think it would cause any problems.

I use Canola oil on all my 1095 steel knives. It's the same stuff you use to spray a pan before cooking. A $1.79 can from Kroger lasts a long time.

I use WD-40.

I use CLP or WD-40 on mine. I don't use any of my knives for food prep, so I don't worry about the oil I use.

I use CLP on my knife blades, it adds a delicious flavor to summer sausage.

I use gun oil for lots of stuff, actually - my bathroom door doesn't squeek anymore because of Remoil!!

Not at all. To be honest though, my knives get a fair amount of use (I said fair, not "Grunt Soldier" level..). Regular use will help avoid any possible buildup. I've been using the Canola oil for about ten years with no issue.

I have used Pam cooking spray before and it is sticky on pots and pans so I would not use that. I would use Rem Oil. We do.

Same here. I also put a bit between by cheek and gum. Girls love it.
Oh, also Frog lube my hand saws and putty knives.
