Ive got a S&W model 66 that needs a little love. It may be something I can do for all I know, but the little orange insert in the front sight is dicked up.

If this is something I can fix, great, it not do you guys have an recommendations for a smith who can?

    thanks,

pic would help, but if it is a fiber optic- they are easily replaced- just snip middle to cut it and remove from both ends- cut new fiber to length and melt the ends with a bic- DO NOT put the ends into the flame only close enough so they swell and hold fiber...

it appears that right under the sight is a pin probably holding in the sight to the barrel. Buy new part from S&W, punch pin out, replace sight with new one, and replace pin. You will need correct size punch to do this...but should be pretty easy...if you lived closed I would do it for you...good luck!

Do it yourself, you've got a lot of options.

Brownells, Numrich and maybe Midway sell kits that you cast your own with. Last time I saw these they ran about $50.

    OR

You can take any plastic you want, file it to shape and epoxy it in or use red lock-tite. Screwdriver plastics are very durable and stand up to cleaning supplies.

    OR

You can use this opportunity to put nightsites on it. Very easy to install, might just need a bit of filing and some red locktite. I've put them on my 686.

another option is to send it to smith they will send you a shipping label may take a few weeks but with a little luck it comes back cleaned looking good and sometimes smith waves fees so it could be free
