How do you define "immediate family"?

I consider children,siblings,spouse,Parents, and grandparents immediate family. This is important to define in terms of bereavement, inheritance, trusts,etc. But am I missing something? Would you add anyone? Is this standardized? Just debating amongst immediate fam

My immediate family are those living in the home with me. If I were single and on my own, I would include my parents and siblings.

That's what my legal definition is. If we are talking about who would I protect with my life that list includes more people and some aren't "blood"

Mine as well but the list keeps getting shorter as time goes on. Not from death either....

Later, me and my three kids (Their mother passed away 5 years ago.)

Right now, all that is left of my birth family is my sister and me.

I get the "you're my brother, man" macho stuff, but if I invite you and your immediate family to something and you show up with a few friends I would consider that inappropriate. I think the OP is looking for a more formal definition of things.
