    Rule # 1. Make sure firearm is unloaded & chamber is empty! Many guns have hurt people when cleaning because live round still in chamber.
    I clean mine at least once a year unless hunting & get wet. Black powder firearms another story.

    I try to clean every gun every time I shoot it. It doesn't hurt them and gives you a chance to inspect for excess wear, cracks, etc.

    I also do a preventative inspection, cleaning and lubricating once a year on all of my babys.
