Many of the problems that arise with the M9 is lack of care on the shooters behalf. If you dont take care of it, it will turn into a turd. I carried one for just over a decade to include 3 years in Iraq. Although it's not the best sidearm out there, with proper care it never left me hanging.
DA / SA - lose

I carried one on several deployments. Never had a problem with it. I carried it in sand and in the jungles of South America. If you keep it reasonably clean and use good mags, you won't have a problem (gee, sounds like a lot of guns). My personally owned 92FS is one of my favorites, accurate and smooth. Don't let all the internet hype get to you, they are excellent pistols.
As for not being a good competition gun, I believe Dave Sevigny used a Beretta to win several National Titles in IDPA matches before he switched to a Glock sponsorship. Army pistol team still uses it. The safety? Never used it..its a DA piece, rack a round, decock and carry off-safe, that's the way the USAF carries it. Capacity? Standard is 16 rounds...how many do you freakin' need? Horrible DA trigger? More training OR slip a 92G mainspring in it and magically drop the DA pull down to about 8 pounds.
