My sons math teacher gave each one of the kids in his class a Christmas present today. My son ended getting an Indian head penny from 1899. My son said he googled it and thought it might be worth anywhere from $5-$9. Any idea what this is worth?

BTW, he asked when he got home if we could put it in the safe so he wouldn’t lose it.

That particular date, in that condition, sells from $1.00 to $2.00. My wife got an 1866 (in fine condition) at the grocery store the other day worth $50-$60. The value all depends on the date and condition.

Wow that was a really nice thing to do. Even nicer that your son could appreciate the gift and want to hold on to it.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll break it to the kid that this isn't going to make him rich, but at least it'll give him a good memory of that one teacher that got him something special.
