Last round of .45 ball ammo failed to feed. Not hung up on breech face, not touching extractor yet, not touching feed ramp yet. Hmmmmm......what could it be?

Checkmate puts a dimple on their follower. This one happened to be "D" shaped and had a square edge to it. Sure enough, as the case slides forward on the follower the front edge of the case rim hangs up on the dimple. This is one of two Checkmate mags and the other seems to be fine.

Problem mag on left, other Checkmate mag in center and Wilson mag on right. Wilson mag also dimpled but far less pronounced.

Massaged the area. Was going to blue it, but the follower is stainless so I just cleaned the whole top surface instead and did the other mag too for good measure.

    I'll be danged. :nailbite:

Wonder why the dimple is there. Just to decrease friction area with the follower? Guess it works if it's rounded...

What is the recoil spring weight you are using? Plus how long has that spring been in the gun? Spring rate for 45 ACP is 16 lbs. If less than that you might have a slow and weak return of the slide not being able to complete chambering. Lastly try a Wilson Mag in your gun, the modified follower they use might help if your using lighter target loads/

Please read my original post, I've already diagnosed and fixed the issue.

Also, commander .45 uses a 18lb spring factory. 16lb is for government model. This one has a 20lb with less than 50 rounds on it.

There used to be a guy on the internet that went by the name of Tuner 1911, I havent run across any of his post in the last few years. He always advocated using GI 7 round magazines, and as mentioned in this thread, the purpose of the dimple is indeed to elevate the nose of the round to facilitate feeding.
