When my dad was a kid, students brought rifles on the school bus to use at Rifle Club. There was a rifle range in the basement of his school, near the boilers. He's showed me the yearbook pictures.

Now its a felony. What's changed.... the perception. And the haircuts.

While they're actions are ridiculous, I don't know why we have accepted the notion that they are a reflection of gun owners.

We've been hoodwinked into thinking that owning a firearm creates a separate class of citizen.

I've owned guns for years and never had any real training until recently. I may not have been a crack-shot, but I could handle my guns safely and concienciously.

However, I grew up with guns since my first BB gun at age 11. Most people today, and an increasing number as the population continues to grow in urban areas, have NOT grown up around guns. They weren't taught to hunt or shoot when they were young. That's why so many of them believe that guns should belong only to cops and robbers, not in the hands of "regular" people.

Many grow up and, for various reasons, buy a gun or two. They think they are protecting themselves and their families by just owning guns. They've never taken any safety or shooting lessons, and since they never practice wtih their guns, they see no need. It's like having a fire extinguisher -- who actually practices putting out fires with a fire extinguisher?

If these kinds of gun owners had just a little education in the safe handling of firearms, laws pertaining to firearms and gained a little proficiency in the use of firearms, perhaps incidents like this would be few and far between.

I'm glad I found INGO. I have learned more about the guns I own, the laws of the land, and have become a better shooter because of it.

I don't disagree but the narrative is written by those that buy their ink by the barrel and those that have access to the tv cameras.
