Your title is a bit misleading. Texas (the state) is not going to war with Mexico (the country). More like Texas is at war with a "non-state enemy" the drug carthel which in this case is based out of Mexico. The Mexican government is also at war with the same drug carthel abiet they may not be doing a good job at it on their side of the border.

If the gangs continue their bloody illicit campaign, this will be an "unsung war" to me. With the resources poured in, lives lost, this is a war, nothing more. Since it is a war, lets start putting the same resources and level of resources as we do with any other war: More drones, Special Forces, the works... Any commitment to combat these gangs that kill US civilians. I am not for fraggin civilians, but heck, drop leaflets: Anyone coming across will be shot, don't like it, talk to your gang buddies! Let's stop this cuddlebugging with Mexico and their corrupt government who only wants our money, not giving much in assistance or even INTEL on these gangs!

Granted, Mexico IS combatting the gangs, but given the corruption we hear abou:
Mexico fires thousands of police to combat corruption | Reuters
We have to ask ourselves, how much of the "action" that Mexico performs against the Cartels is genuine, how much of it is just token to keep heat off of existing corruption or how much of it isn't part of more corruption?!

What is THEIR commitment level to combating essentially a Mexican "Taliban" within their borders? The Taliban used drugs as a method of income (as well as doping their troopers), used the money to buy weaponry and influence in their nation states and actively participate in terrorism. The Cartels are similar, but terrorism is the use of force for political or ideological furtherment. While potentially a goal of the Cartels, I think it's money and drug commerce they want, so does that make them commercialists? :(

Bring our troops home from countries that the people really do not want us there in the first place, then station them where the real war is and that is our southern border with all the technology and weapontry we can secure that border! We simply need to allow the Officers and troops to do what has to be done to do their job

That is what I am talkin' about: Get the guys who want to continue to do their duty (instead of standing in an unemployment line), the guys who are TRAINED and HARDENED in desert warfare and know the land they are defending, instead of sending them to some god aweful heck hole where they don't have anything to strive for, other than some ambiguous "defending the homeland from "terrorists"".

Mexico lays off a thousand cops, who then move to a different area and become cops again. They don't have a system in place which would prevent them from being rehired after they were terminated for corruption. Mexico has yet to make a move showing a true determination to combat this problem and we shouldn't expect to see one.

Obviously this thing will only get worse before it gets better. I say good for Texas and thumbs up to their public safety guys and gals.
