Greetings, I have a 18.5 inch tapered barrel from a Ruger 10/22. It has the stock front site on it. I am wanting to have it cut and threaded to 1/2 X 28. My quesiton is ... Is there enough barrel thickness beyond the 16.5 inch mark to have it threaded after cutting the front sight off? I am not looking to SBR the rifle.

yes there is enough material to do it that way, but it obviously doesn't give much of a shoulder to tighten against. The person doing the threading would more then likely leave some of the sight band on to give it a little more surface to butt against.
I prefer cutting the front sight off and moving it back.
That way you have a good solid shoulder and retain the sight as well.

So after listening to the advise, I went to ZRTS and had them thread 1 bull barrel and.. cut, crown and reinstall the front sight and add threads to another. Wonderful outfit. I had my work done in about a day. Great turnaround. Very fair price for both the barrels. I here it is a good idea to have a spacer cut so the vibrations are working against it and not the threads.
