So my fiancé and I just had our bridal shower yesterday let me just say being the only male surrounded by 80+ women was one hell of a time.

Well we received a knife set that I picked out. It was a calphalon knife set. It is the katana series made out of vg-1.

Now here is my question at a budget of $500 dollars do you think these knives are sufficient and if not what would you recommends preferably a set but if it possible piecing together blades for under $500 I'm open to that advice.

good utility knives.... don't buy 'em all just a sandwich knife, french knife 11" and a paring knife. Buy good stuff maybe Wusthoff, hinkles, sabiter, or maybe only one of the really high grade carbon steel... build a great set one at a time
